The Suggestibles is a British improv comedy group, based in Newcastle upon Tyne.

Newcastle upon Tyne, commonly known as Newcastle, is a city in Tyne and Wear, North East England, 103 miles (166 km) south of Edinburgh and 277 miles (446 km) north of London on the northern bank of the River Tyne, 8.5 mi (13.7 km) from the North Sea. Formed in 2003 at Live Theatre they went on to find a following at their home venue, The Cumberland Arms in the Ouseburn Valley, playing there every month and, since 2011, also monthly at The Stand Comedy Club. The group have also played regular residencies at The Hyena, Black Swan and The Mixer in Jesmond.

Ouseburn Valley

The Ouseburn Valley is the name of the valley of the Ouseburn, a small tributary of the River Tyne, running southwards through the east of Newcastle upon Tyne, England. The name refers particularly to the urbanised lower valley, spanned by three impressive bridges, which is nowadays a cultural and social oasis close to the centre of Newcastle.

The Stand Comedy Club are three stand-up comedy venues in the cities of Edinburgh, Glasgow, and Newcastle upon Tyne.

The group has a core team of players (in 2018 this is currently Bev Fox, Ian McLaughlin, Carl Kennedy, Tom Walton and Rachel Glover) and are usually accompanied by Alex Ross, an improvising musician, and often a special guest from other UK improv companies. Previous core members of the team have included Gary Kitching and Chris Price. Guest players have included Niall Ashdown, Victoria Elliott, Stephen Frost, Paula Penman, Lee Simpson, Andy Smart, Steve Steen, Richard Vranch, Stella Duffy, Suki Webster and Tony Slattery.

Niall Ashdown is a comedian, actor, improvisor and writer.

Stephen Frost British comedian

Stephen Frederick Eustace Frost is an English actor and comedian.

Lee Simpson is a British actor and comedian best known as a member of the improvisational group The Comedy Store Players.

Their regular show usually consists of two 45 minute sets, with improv games and short forms in the first half, and "Aspects" - a long form (or narrative) improvised musical [1] in the second.

Improvisational theatre theatrical genre

Improvisational theatre, often called improvisation or improv, is the form of theatre, often comedy, in which most or all of what is performed is unplanned or unscripted: created spontaneously by the performers. In its purest form, the dialogue, action, story, and characters are created collaboratively by the players as the improvisation unfolds in present time, without use of an already prepared, written script.

The group's roots can be traced to 1992, when founder members Bev Fox and Ian McLaughlin created 'The Impro Panto' with a mini London tour (sponsored by Cadbury's) at the Arts Theatre, BAC, Gate and Banana. The group present their "Impro Pantso" [2] , an improvised pantomime, every Christmas at both Northern Stage and the Cumberland Arms. [3] which now also tours additional venues including Gala Theatre in Durham, Seaton Deleval Arts Centre, Hexham Queens Hall, Washington Arts Centre and Alnwick Playhouse.

Northern Stage, Newcastle upon Tyne theatre and producing theatre company in Newcastle upon Tyne, England

Northern Stage is a theatre and producing theatre company based in Newcastle upon Tyne. It is surrounded by Newcastle University's city centre campus on King's Walk, opposite the students' union building. It hosts various local, national and international productions in addition to those produced by the Northern Stage company. Until the 2006 reopening the theatre was known as the Newcastle Playhouse and is a registered charity.

The Alnwick Playhouse is an arts centre, theatre and cinema in the town of Alnwick in Northumberland, England. It is also the headquarters of the NTC Touring Theatre Company.

On 23 April 2005 The Suggestibles were the winning team at London's Globe Theatre in Ken Campbell's Shakespearean improv tournament: Shall We Shog? beating teams from London and Liverpool. They have also performed at Bristol Jam, an annual improv festival held at the Bristol Old Vic, since its inception in 2009.

The Globe Theatre was a theatre in London associated with William Shakespeare. It was built in 1599 by Shakespeare's playing company, the Lord Chamberlain's Men, on land owned by Thomas Brend and inherited by his son, Nicholas Brend and grandson Sir Matthew Brend, and was destroyed by fire on 29 June 1613. A second Globe Theatre was built on the same site by June 1614 and closed by an Ordinance issued on 6 September 1642.

Kenneth Victor Campbell was an English writer, actor, director and comedian known for his work in experimental theatre. He has been called "a one-man dynamo of British theatre."

Bristol Old Vic theatre in Birstol, England

Bristol Old Vic is a British theatre company based at the Theatre Royal, Bristol. The present company was established in 1946 as an offshoot of the Old Vic in London. It is associated with the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, which became a financially independent organisation in the 1990s. Bristol Old Vic runs a Young Company for those aged 7–25.

Away from the stage, the Suggestibles have an online following for their videos and live improv clips. They won a Royal Television Society Award in 2008[ citation needed ] for Pour Quoi (a skit on Parkour) which was an [ citation needed ] overnight [ citation needed ] YouTube hit with over 800,000 views there. The team also presented a live radio show on NE1FM for six months in 2008.

Two founder members of the group, Bev Fox and Ian McLaughlin, also teach improv skills for personal and business development, as Suggestibles' School of Improv.

Theatre Strike Force

Theatre Strike Force is the University of Florida's premier improv and sketch comedy troupe. The group also goes by TSF. The style of improv performed by Theatre Strike Force is a combination long form and short form. They both teach and perform improvisational comedy. They have six house teams which include both forms of improv as well as a sketch team. There are four long form house teams which are cast every semester and usually have six to eight members. The TSF Short Form Team is cast every semester as well and usually has fifteen to nineteen members. TSF Sketch is the final house team and usually has twelve to sixteen members, cast each semester.

The Fracas! Improv Festival is a three-day annual improvisational theatre festival held at The University of Southern California in Los Angeles, California. The festival is hosted by Second Nature Improv, one of USC's improv troupes. In addition to performances, the festival hosts discussion panels with professional improvisers currently working in television, film, and/or theatre, as well as improv workshops. While the performances and panels are open to the public, workshops are available only to registered festival participants.

Philly Improv Theater

Philly Improv Theater, or PHIT, is a Philadelphia, Pennsylvania comedy theater which produces and presents shows at The Adrienne Theatre in Center City Philadelphia. The theater also operates a training center with programs in improv comedy, sketch comedy and stand-up comedy. PHIT's most notable alumnus is stand-up comedian Kent Haines, who was the 2008 winner of the Philly's Phunniest contest at Helium Comedy Club and has appeared on public radio show The Sound of Young America and Season 4 of Comedy Central's program Live at Gotham. In addition to Haines, other comedians from Philadelphia who appeared on stage at PHIT have gone on to perform at major comedy venues in cities like New York and Los Angeles, founded their own theatre companies, and appeared in touring productions for The Second City.

Brendan Healy was a British entertainer from North East England. Beginning as a musician, he worked in television, becoming an actor, theatre writer and producer, and, later, a comedian.

Ronald "Ron "Pederson is a Canadian actor, improviser and theatre director who has worked extensively throughout Canada and in the United States. Impro Melbourne is an improvisational theatre company in the Australian city of Melbourne. Formed by Russell Fletcher and Christine Keogh in 1996 it is now run by Artistic Directors Patti Stiles & Katherine Weaver, General Manager Rik Brown and Committee chaired by Vicki Kyriakakis. Impro Melbourne is an Incorporated Association.

Jessica McKenna is an American screen actor, voice actor, and improvisational comedian. McKenna trained with The Groundlings and at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre, where she regularly performs. McKenna was one of the stars of Fox's Party Over Here, alongside Nicole Byer and Alison Rich, and currently hosts the podcast Off Book: The Improvised Musical on Earwolf.
