West Coast hip hop is a regional genre of hip hop music that encompasses any artists or music that originated in the West Coast of the United States. West Coast hip hop began to dominate from a radio play and sales standpoint during the early to-mid 1990s with the birth of G-funk and the emergence of record labels such as Suge Knight and Dr. Dre's Death Row Records, Ice Cube's Lench Mob Records, the continued success of Eazy-E's Ruthless Records, Dr. Dre's Aftermath Entertainment, and others.
7L & Esoteric (7LES) are an American underground hip hop duo from Boston, Massachusetts, known for battle rhymes and boom bap production. 7L is the duo's DJ/producer and Esoteric is the MC. 7L & Esoteric are both prominent members of underground hip-hop collectives Army of the Pharaohs and Demigodz, as well as being 2/3 of Czarface along with Wu-Tang Clan member Inspectah Deck.

The song reached number 35 in the U.S. and eventually was certified Gold by the RIAA. The song first premiered online on the MySpace.com homepage and it was the first hip hop single to premiere online before being released.

An official remix for the song was released featuring Canadian singer Justin Bieber. The song is inspired by "Slow Down" from fellow Bay Area artist Clyde Carson.
Nyle Kalin Parrish, better known by the stage name Clyde Carson, is an American rapper from Oakland, California. He was originally known as a member of the hip hop group The Team. After the group went on hiatus, he was the one member of the group to break out as a solo artist. He was signed to rapper The Game's The Black Wall Street Records and Capitol Records in 2006. While signed there he released the EP Doin' That. However, he wasn't signed to them for long, before deciding to go back to releasing music independently via Moe Doe Entertainment. After returning to just that label, he has released two EPs: Bass Rock and Playboy. He also released the song "Slow Down", which was featured on the 2013 video game Grand Theft Auto V.

By 2009 Baeza was releasing his own singles and music videos, and his first mixtape, Dough and Dro, came out in early 2013. He has toured throughout the United States as a headliner at venues such as the Veterans Memorial Auditorium in California Fresno, and after the late 2013 release of his Right on Time EP he was featured as an "artist on the way to the top" in The Fresno Bee. Currently signed to Empire Distribution, he has collaborated with hip hop artists such as Clyde Carson and Baby Bash, and in June 2015 he is due to release a full-length version of his The Man EP on EMPIRE Recordings. Baeza operates his own fashion line, Striktly Business, out of Fresno. In January 2023 Baeza was arrested for 3 counts of oral compulation with a child under 10 years
Jarrod Clarence Heston by his stage name Mayne Mannish, is an American rapper from Oakland, California. Mayne Mannish got his start with his group, The Team. They are associated with West Coast hip hop music, and have a unique sound that showcases the diversity of hyphy music. The Team regained popularity in late 2005 after dropping the singles "Just Go" and "Bottles Up" to promote their new album, World Premiere, which peaked at number 95 on the Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums, and number 50 on the Billboard Top Independent Albums. Mannish is also known for being featured in the song "Slow Down", which was featured in the 2013 video game Grand Theft Auto V. Mayne Mannish has since broken out as a solo artist. He has come out with many singles including "Slow Down", "Right Back", "Burn Rubber", and "Foy", and has featured in songs with artists such as E-40, John Hart, Eric Bellinger, Husalah, and Omega Crosby.
