Located in the center of the Santa Clara Valley on the southern shore of San Francisco Bay, San Jose covers an area of 179.97 sq mi (466.1 km2). San Jose is the county seat of Santa Clara County and the main component of the San Jose–Sunnyvale–Santa Clara Metropolitan Statistical Area, with an estimated population of around two million residents in 2018.

Oscar Cantú is a Mexican-American prelate of the Roman Catholic Church who has been serving as bishop of the Diocese of San Jose in California since 2018. He served as bishop of the Diocese of Las Cruces in New Mexico from 2013 to 2018, and as an auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of San Antonio in Texas from 2008 to 2013. When Cantú became a bishop in 2008, he was the youngest bishop in the United States.
