The Westin Dhaka is a 5-star hotel under the international hotel chain Westin Hotels & Resorts located at Gulshan Avenue in Dhaka. It is located at Plot-01, Road-45, Gulshan-2, Dhaka-1212, Bangladesh.
The Westin Dhaka was designed by architects Mohammad Foyez Ullah and Mustapha Khalid Palash. [3] At 86 m (282 ft), it has 24 floors and was completed in 2006. [1] [4]
In February 2020, The Westin Dhaka came under scrutiny following the arrest of expelled Bangladesh Jubo Mohila League leader Shamia Noor Papia, who had spent large sums renting its most expensive suite. [5] Papia was accused of involvement in drug and arms trading, land grabbing, and forcing women into sex work at the hotel. [5] Police criticised the hotel for failing to follow the unofficial practice of notifying authorities about Bangladeshi guests with extended stays. [5] After her arrest, visitor numbers reportedly declined due to both the case and the COVID-19 pandemic in Bangladesh. [5]
