The Zenith Passage is an American technical death metal band from Los Angeles, California founded in 2012. They are currently signed to Metal Blade Records. [1] To date they have released one EP, Cosmic Dissonance, and two LPs, Solipsist and Datalysium.

They are closely linked with fellow Los Angeles metal band The Faceless. The Zenith Passage's Justin McKinney joined The Faceless to play guitar in 2015, replacing Wes Hauch, who had played on The Zenith Passage's debut album. [2] Derek "Demon Carcass" Rydquist and Brandon Giffin, who had played on The Faceless's first two albums ( Akeldama and Planetary Duality ), joined The Zenith Passage in 2021.

The band went on tour as part of MetalSucks Devastation of the Nation tour, supporting Cryptopsy and Decrepit Birth. [3]

History

The Zenith Passage started in 2012 as collaboration between friends Justin McKinney and Greg Hampton. After releasing a one track demo in February 2012, the band released their debut EP Cosmic Dissonance on January 29, 2013. [4] The band signed a multi-album deal with Unique Leader Records on June 24, 2013. [5]

On April 15, 2016 the band released their debut LP Solipsist, with guest vocals from Fallujah’s Alex Hofmann and a guitar solo by Wes Hauch (ex-The Faceless).[ citation needed ] Ex-Fallujah and All Shall Perish guitarist Rob Maramonte had joined the band in 2013. [6] The album sold 1850 units in its first week. [7]

The band’s debut LP, Solipsist , was released April 16, 2016 on Unique Leader Records.[ citation needed ] For the album, the band produced its first music video, for the song "Deus Deceptor". [8]

Drummer Matthew Paulazzo left the band in 2018 to enter film school. [9]

On August 9, 2021, the band released a music video for their new single "Algorithmic Salvation". They also announced the return of drummer Matthew Paulazzo and the addition of new members Derek Rydquist and Brandon Giffin (both formerly of The Faceless) as new vocalist and bassist, respectively. [10]

On December 7, 2022, the band announced they had signed to Metal Blade Records and were in the studio working on two albums. It was also revealed drummer Matthew Paulazzo was once again no longer in the band. [11]

On May 15, 2023, the band announced their new full-length album, Datalysium, would be released on July 21, 2023. The announcement was accompanied by the release of a single from the album, "Lexicontagion". [12] A second single, "Divinertia II", and an accompanying music video, were released on June 14, 2023. [13]

Tourniquet was an American Christian metal band that formed in Los Angeles in 1990. It was founded by Ted Kirkpatrick, Guy Ritter, and Gary Lenaire. Tourniquet primarily played a mixture of thrash and progressive metal and was influenced by additional, non-rock forms of music such as classical and world music. The band earned six GMA Dove Award nominations and won multiple recognitions from the readers of HM Magazine, including "Favorite Band of the 1990s" and "Favorite Album of the 1990s" for Pathogenic Ocular Dissonance (1992). The album debuted at #66 on the Billboard Top Current Albums chart.

Solipsist is the debut studio album by American technical death metal band The Zenith Passage. It was released via Unique Leader Records on April 15, 2016. It is the band's first release for Unique Leader Records, with whom they signed in 2013. The album focuses on the concept of solipsism. The album features a guest vocal appearance by Fallujah's Alex Hofmann, and guitar solo by Wes Hauch. The cover art was done by Ken Sarafin, who had also worked with Skinless, The Kennedy Veil, and Archspire. Per figures provided by Metal news site MetalInsider, the album sold 720 units in its first week.

Where Owls Know My Name is the third studio album by American technical death metal band Rivers of Nihil. It was released on March 16, 2018 through Metal Blade Records, debuting at number 61 and selling 2,750 copies in its first week. It is the third album in the band's tetralogy based around the four seasons, representing autumn.

Cryptic Shift is an English extreme metal band formed in Leeds, West Yorkshire in 2013. They have two EPs and two demos, with their debut album Visitations from Enceladus being released on 4 May 2020 through Blood Harvest records. In an article for The Quietus, the album was referred to as "damn near essential, and proof that [Britain] has a valid contribution to make to this new wave of progressive death metal".
