In contrast to his previous work's gangsta rap themes, the album contains socially conscious and philosophical themes similar to that of his 1994 debut Illmatic. "I Got 5 on It" is a mobb music song by American rap duo Luniz featuring R&B singer Michael Marshall, released in May 1995 as the lead single from the duo's debut album, Operation Stackola (1995). The song reached number two in Germany, number three in the United Kingdom and number eight in the United States. It is a drug anthem about the consumption of marijuana; its title and chorus refer to the practice of splitting the cost of a marijuana purchase and claiming five dollars' worth of it. Against All Odds is the third solo studio album by the hip hop artist Tragedy Khadafi. The album was released in 2001 after much delay, and included his 2000 single "Bing Monsters". Tragedy "dissed" his then-former friend Noreaga on the tracks "Crime Nationalist" and "Blood Type", accusing him of stealing his rhyming style and even his hooks. They have since reconciled.

MP Da Last Don is the seventh studio album by American rapper Master P. It was released by No Limit Records, Priority Records and EMI. It originally debuted at number 112 on the Billboard Top 200 chart as several stores sold the album before its official release, but then it peaked at number one on the Billboard Top 200 chart, selling 495,000 copies in the first official week. It gained mixed reviews. It was also released about the same time as the straight-to-video short film, MP Da Last Don. It was promoted as his final studio album, although Master P returned to solo recording with Only God Can Judge Me in 1999. The album was certified 4× Platinum by the RIAA with over four million copies sold, making it the best-selling album of Master P's career.
