Thomas Patrick Bussey (1905-1981) was an associate justice of the South Carolina Supreme Court.
Justice Bussey was twice a representative in the South Carolina House of Representatives (from 1937 to 1940 and then again in 1957 to 1958). He was elected a trial court judge in January 1958 and then reelected in 1961 for a full term. He was elevated to the South Carolina Supreme Court in February 1961 to fill the position,which was vacated by the retirement of Lionel K. Legge in December 1961. [1] He was sworn in on December 11,1961. [2] He served on the Supreme Court until he retired on September 30,1975. [3]
Justice Bussey died on July 26,1981.

Jean Hoefer Toal is an American former judge who was a chief justice of the Supreme Court of South Carolina. She was the first woman and the first Roman Catholic to serve as chief justice. In 2013,she became the first chief justice on the Supreme Court of South Carolina since the 1800s to have an opponent run against her. Toal has continued to serve in the judiciary as a senior judge since her retirement from the Supreme Court.

Costa M. Pleicones is an American jurist who served as the chief justice of the South Carolina Supreme Court. He has served on the court since being elected in February 2000 to replace Justice Toal. He was sworn in on March 29,2000. Before being elected to the court,his judicial experience included serving on the courts for the city of Columbia and as a Circuit Court Judge. On May 27,2015,Justice Pleicones was elected to replace Chief Justice Jean Toal. His term began January 1,2016,and his investiture as Chief Justice of South Carolina took place on January 7,2016.
Roderick L. Ireland is a former Chief Justice of the Supreme Judicial Court of Massachusetts,and the first African American to serve that position. He was nominated for Chief Justice by Governor Deval Patrick on November 4,2010,and sworn in on December 20. He retired from service on the court on July 25,2014.

John G. Stabler (1871-1940) was an associate justice and later chief justice on the South Carolina Supreme Court. He graduated from Wofford in 1905 and then taught Latin in Bamberg County,South Carolina. He graduated in 1908 from the law school at the University of South Carolina and practiced law in St. Matthews,South Carolina. From 1920 to 1926,he served in the South Carolina Senate until being elected to the South Carolina Supreme Court in 1926,taking his position in January 1926. On March 15,1935,he was elevated to chief justice and served until his death in 1940.
Eugene Satterwhite Blease (1877-1963) was the chief justice of the South Carolina Supreme Court from 1931 to 1934.
David Walker Harwell was an associate justice and chief justice on the South Carolina Supreme Court. He was sworn in as chief justice on December 19,1991,with his term to commence upon the retirement of Chief Justice George Gregory,Jr. on January 1,1992. He died on September 30,2015.
George Tillman Gregory Jr. was an associate justice and chief justice on the South Carolina Supreme Court. He began practicing law in 1944,served in the 1950s in the South Carolina Statehouse,and became a state trial court judge in 1956. He was sworn in as the chief justice on February 26,1988. Although his term was to expire in 1994,Gregory gave notice of his retirement in 1991. Gregory died on January 23,2003.
E. C. Burnett III is a former associate justice of the South Carolina Supreme Court. He was elected on March 21,1995,to fill the unexpired nine years of Judge Randall Bell's term;Judge Bell had died before being sworn into his seat on the South Carolina Supreme Court. Burnett defeated Judge Costa Pleicones by a vote of 102–58.
William Luther Rhodes Jr. was an associate justice of the South Carolina Supreme Court. Rhodes was elected to the South Carolina Supreme Court in 1975. He was sworn in on August 14,1975,to replace Justice Lewis as an associate justice. Served in South Carolina House of Representatives from 1951 to 1960m as chairman of ways and means,and as Judge South Carolina Fourteenth Judicial Circuit from 1960 to 1975. He was reelected to a full ten-year term in 1978.
