The Academy Award for Best Makeup and Hairstyling is the Academy Award given to the best achievement in makeup and hairstyling for film. Traditionally, three films have been nominated each year with exceptions in the early 1980s and 2002 when there were only two nominees; in 1999, when there were four nominees. Beginning with the 92nd Academy Awards, five films were nominated.
Richard Alan Baker, known professionally as Rick Baker, is an American retired special make-up effects creator and actor. He is mostly known for his creature designs and effects. Baker has won the Academy Award for Best Makeup a record seven times from a record eleven nominations, beginning when he won the inaugural award for the 1981 horror comedy film An American Werewolf in London.

Mindy Hall is a makeup artist who has worked on films such as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2014) and Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps (2010). She also worked on Star Trek (2009), where she was involved in the redesign work on the Romulan race. For her work on that film, she won an Academy Award for Best Makeup.

The British Academy Television Craft Award for Best Make-Up & Hair Design is one of the categories presented by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) within the British Academy Television Craft Awards, the craft awards were established in 2000 with their own, separate ceremony as a way to spotlight technical achievements, without being overshadowed by the main production categories. According to the BAFTA website, the eligibility of this category is "limited to artists directly responsible for the make up and hair design in the programme."
Kimberley Spiteri is an American make-up artist. She was nominated for an Academy Award in the category Best Makeup and Hairstyling for the film Mank. Spiteri also won an Primetime Emmy Award and was nominated for five more in the category Outstanding Hairstyling for her work on the television programs Six Feet Under, The Originals, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and television films Ike: Countdown to D-Day and Deadwood: The Movie.
Eryn Krueger Mekash is an American make-up artist, producer and special effects artist. She was nominated for an Academy Award in the category Best Makeup and Hairstyling for the film Hillbilly Elegy. Mekash has also won eight Primetime Emmy Awards and been nominated for 39 more in the categories Outstanding Makeup (Non-Prosthetic) and Outstanding Prosthetic Makeup.
Göran Lundström is a Swedish make-up artist. He was nominated for two Academy Awards in the category Best Makeup and Hairstyling for the films Border and House of Gucci.

Judy Chin is an Academy Award-winning American makeup artist, having won the Academy Award for Best Makeup and Hairstyling for The Whale in 2023. With this win, she became the first woman of Asian descent to win the Academy Award in that category.
