Bermuda is a British Overseas Territory in the North Atlantic Ocean. The Bermuda archipelago consists of 181 islands with a total land area of 54 km2 (21 sq mi). The closest land outside the territory is in the US state of North Carolina, approximately 1,035 km (643 mi) to the west-northwest.
The British colonization of the Americas was the history of establishment of control, settlement, and colonization of the continents of the Americas by England, Scotland and, after 1707, Great Britain. Colonization efforts began in the late 16th century with failed attempts by England to establish permanent colonies in the North. The first permanent English colony was established in Jamestown, Virginia in 1607. Approximately 30,000 Algonquian peoples lived in the region at the time. Over the next several centuries more colonies were established in North America, Central America, South America, and the Caribbean. Though most British colonies in the Americas eventually gained independence, some colonies have opted to remain under Britain's jurisdiction as British Overseas Territories.
The British Overseas Territories (BOTs), also known as the United Kingdom Overseas Territories (UKOTs), are fourteen territories with a constitutional and historical link with the United Kingdom. They are the last remnants of the former British Empire and do not form part of the United Kingdom itself. The permanently inhabited territories are internally self-governing, with the United Kingdom retaining responsibility for defence and foreign relations. Three of the territories are inhabited only by a transitory population of military or scientific personnel. All but one of the rest are listed by the UN Special Committee on Decolonization as non-self-governing territories. All fourteen have the British monarch as head of state.
The Commissioner for the British Antarctic Territory (BAT), is the head of government in the Antarctic Territory of the United Kingdom. As one of the British Overseas Territories, the commissioner is appointed by the monarch of the United Kingdom on the advice of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.
Viscount Dunrossil, of Vallaquie in the Isle of North Uist in the County of Inverness, is a title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom. It was created on 12 November 1959 for the Conservative politician William Morrison upon his retirement as Speaker of the House of Commons. His son, the second Viscount, notably served as High Commissioner to Fiji and as Governor of Bermuda. As of 2017 the title is held by the latter's son, the third Viscount, who succeeded in 2000.
Richard James Codey is an American Democratic Party politician who served as the 53rd governor of New Jersey from 2004 to 2006. He has served in the New Jersey Senate since 1982 and served as the President of the Senate from 2002 to 2010. He represents the 27th Legislative District, which covers the western portions of Essex County and the southeastern portion of Morris County. Codey is the longest-serving state legislator in New Jersey history, having served in the New Jersey Legislature continuously since January 8, 1974. He has served as the Deputy Senate President Pro Tem since 2022.
Sir John William David Swan is a former Bermudian political figure. A real estate developer, a political luminary and a philanthropist, Swan served as Premier of Bermuda from 1982 to 1995.

Sir Richard Hugh Turton Gozney is a British career diplomat. He was governor and commander in chief of Bermuda from 12 December 2007 to 18 May 2012 and served as the Lieutenant Governor of the Isle of Man from 27 May 2016 until 29 August 2021.

Bermuda Department of Corrections, formerly Her Majesty's Prison Service, Bermuda, is the agency charged with managing the prisons within the British Overseas Territory of Bermuda. It is a part of the Ministry of National Security and is headquartered in Hamilton. In 2002, the Government of Bermuda renamed the HM Prisons to Correctional Facilities. At the same time, HM Prison Service was renamed The Department of Corrections. It is the only prison/corrections force within the British Overseas Territories and United Kingdom that uses the "Corrections" title rather than the more usual "HM Prison Service" as is customary.

Prakash Mehrotra was an Indian politician from the Indian National Congress. He was member of Rajya Sabha, the upper house of the Parliament of India, representing the state of Uttar Pradesh from 3 April 1976 to 9 August 1981. He served as the Governor of Assam and of Meghalaya. He also served as the Indian High Commissioner to the United Kingdom. He was married to Preeti Mehrotra and had 4 daughters and 1 son, Ravi Prakash Mehrotra who is an eminent lawyer in the Supreme Court of India.
