Three Rivers Community College (TRCC) is a public community college in Norwich, Connecticut. It was formed in 1992 by the merger of Mohegan Community College and Thames Valley State Technical College [2] and is named after the three major rivers in the region: the Shetucket, the Yantic and the Thames. [4] It is accredited by the New England Commission of Higher Education. [5]
2023 was the last commencement under the name "Three Rivers Community College." As of July 1, 2023, it, along with the other 11 community colleges, merged into a single state institution. [6] It is now the Three Rivers campus of Connecticut State Community College. [7]
The college was split between the Mohegan and Thames Valley campuses on opposite sides of Norwich. In 2003, the state legislature approved funding to consolidate the college at the Thames Valley campus. In 2009, the college finally consolidated into the one campus on New London Turnpike. There are also two off-campus instructional centers, one at the nearby Naval Submarine Base, the other at Ella Grasso Technical School in Groton. [4]
Three Rivers Community College is also the home of Three Rivers Middle College (TRMC), a dual-enrollment magnet high school. [8] TRMC students combine the last two years of high school with up to one full year of college courses, giving them a head start on their associate degrees.
New London County is a county in the southeastern corner of Connecticut and comprises the Norwich-New London, Connecticut Metropolitan Statistical Area, which is also included in the Hartford-East Hartford, Connecticut Combined Statistical Area. Middletown is a city in Middlesex County, Connecticut, United States. Located along the Connecticut River, in the central part of the state, it is 16 miles south of Hartford. Middletown is the largest city in the Lower Connecticut River Valley Planning Region. In 1650, it was incorporated by English settlers as a town under its original Native American name, Mattabeseck, after the local Wangunk village of the same name. They were among many tribes along the Atlantic coast who spoke Algonquian languages. The colonists renamed the settlement in 1653.
Uncasville is a village in the town of Montville, Connecticut, United States. It is located in southeastern Montville, at the mouth of the Oxoboxo River where it flows into the Thames River. Eastern Connecticut State University is a public university in Willimantic, Connecticut. Founded in 1889, it is the second-oldest campus in the Connecticut State University System and third-oldest public university in the state. Eastern is located on Windham Street in Willimantic, Connecticut, on 182 acres (0.74 km2) 30 minutes from Hartford, lying midway between New York City and Boston. Although the majority of courses are held on the main campus, select classes take place at Manchester Community College, Capital Community College, and a satellite center in Groton.
Mohegan Sun is an American casino, owned and operated by the Mohegan Tribe on 240 acres (97 ha) of their reservation, along the banks of the Thames River in Uncasville, Connecticut. It has 364,000 square feet of gambling space.
Capital Community College is a public community college in Hartford, Connecticut. The only public fully undergraduate institution in the City of Hartford, Capital's roots date to 1967 with the founding of Greater Hartford Community College. In 1992 Capital merged with Hartford State Technical College to become Capital Community-Technical College in a state-mandated consolidation. In 2000, the college's name was changed to Capital Community College.
The Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG), formerly known as the Department of Technical and Adult Education (DTAE), is the State of Georgia Government Agency which supervises the U.S. state of Georgia's 22 technical colleges, while also surveying the adult literacy program and economic and workforce development programs. The system operates the Georgia Virtual Technical Connection, a clearinghouse for online technical courses. The TCSG serves the people and the state by creating a system of technical education whose purpose is to use the latest technology and easy access for all adult Georgians and corporate citizens.
Richmond upon Thames College is a large college of further and higher education located on a single site in Twickenham. It provides education and training to 16- to 18-year-olds and adults from across the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames and further afield. The college offers a range of academic and technical vocational qualifications, including A Levels, technical vocational qualifications, higher education courses and apprenticeships. Since 2023, the college is part of a newly merged group with Harrow College and Uxbridge College.
The Mohegan are an Algonquian Native American tribe historically based in present-day Connecticut. Today the majority of the people are associated with the Mohegan Indian Tribe, a federally recognized tribe living on a reservation in the eastern upper Thames River valley of south-central Connecticut. It is one of two federally recognized tribes in the state, the other being the Mashantucket Pequot, whose reservation is in Ledyard, Connecticut. There are also three state-recognized tribes: the Schaghticoke, Paugusett, and Eastern Pequot.
Gateway Community College (GCC) is a public community college with its main campus in New Haven, Connecticut, and an automotive technology campus in North Haven. As of February 17, 2010, GCC had the highest credit enrollment among Connecticut's community colleges, with 7,416 students enrolled in for-credit classes. It was formed in 1992 by the merger of South Central Community College in New Haven and the Greater New Haven State Technical College in North Haven.
The Norwich State Hospital, originally established as the Norwich State Hospital for the Insane, later shortened to the Norwich Hospital, was a psychiatric hospital located in Preston and Norwich, Connecticut. It opened its doors in October 1904 and operated until October 10, 1996. Throughout the near-century it operated, it housed geriatric patients, chemically dependent patients, and from 1931-1939, tubercular patients. The hospital, which sits on the banks of the Thames River, began with a single building on 100 acres of land, and expanded to over 30 buildings and 900 acres at its peak. A 70 acre property including the hospital was listed as a historic district on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988.

The Groton Public School District services approximately 4,000 students from the City of Groton, Town of Groton, Groton Long Point, Noank, and West Mystic areas. The school district includes students of families who are employed at General Dynamics Electric Boat, Pfizer, and US Navy Submarine Base NLON. Due to the military population, a large number of students move in and out of the school district due to military transfers.

It is one of the Connecticut Technical Education and Career System schools located within the state, and receives students from nearby cities and towns including Canterbury, Groton, New London, Norwich, Old Saybrook, Waterford, Montville , Willimantic and many more within Southeastern Connecticut.
Vermont State University is a public university in the U.S. state of Vermont formed through the merger of three institutions: Castleton University, Northern Vermont University, and Vermont Technical College. First proposed in December 2020 as a way to consolidate the Vermont State Colleges, the state's public university system, it is accredited by the New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE).
