Three Thieves is a 2019 Nigerian comedy thriller film directed by Udoka Oyeka, written by Egbemawei Sammy, Abba Makama and Africa Ukoh [2] [3] produced by Trino Motion Pictures. It was released across Cinemas on October 4.

Plot

Due to a case of mistaken identity, three dissatisfied friends are contracted to commit a seemingly simple theft. Even worse, the man originally contracted for the job is on the hunt for them. Things unfold and they just might be adding kidnapping to the list of crimes they are committing. With a comedic twist to it all, it’s a wonder how they end up as heroes of the day. [4]

The official trailer for the film was released on 10 September 2019 and the press screening in Lagos which held on the 12th September, 2019. Three Thieves premiered at the Genesis Cinemas Oniru on 27 September 2019 with guests like Frank Donga and Lasisi Elenu and was released across cinemas on October 4, 2019. [9] [10]

Critical reception

Three Thieves received reviews from critics. According to Precious of MamaZeus “If you are ever going to judge anything by its cover or in this case, trailer…. Stop! Retrace those steps as Three Thieves is a Nollywood rarity.” [11]
Tha Revue praised the movie production and cinematography which gave the audience pleasant viewing experience. He also highlighted the chemistry and comedy between the three lead characters Koye, Shawn and Frank. [12]
Ifeoma Okeke of Business Day Nigeria had this to say as the movie release was approaching. “As Nigerian movies make international recognition, only very few movies have a mix of humor, capture every day to day activity and yet do not losing grip on moral lessons. One such few films are the ‘Three Thieves, which will be out in cinemas on the 4th of October, 2019.” [13]

Femi Adebayo Salami is a Nigerian film director, film actor, lawyer, producer and Special Adviser to the Governor of Kwara State on Arts, Culture and Tourism. He is the son of the veteran actor, Adebayo Salami.

Makida Moka(4th January 1992) is an Egyptian-born Nigerian actress and model. She starred as Monye in the 2014 TV series Gidi Up, and played a rape victim in Emem Isong's 2015 drama film Code of Silence. As a model she is a brand ambassador for Frankie and Co.

Frank Donga Nigerian actor and comedian

Kunle Idowu, popularly known as Frank Donga, is a Nigerian actor and comedian. He rose to fame through the webseries, The Interview, on Ndani TV about an unassuming job-seeker for which he was nominated for Best Actor in a Comedy in the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Award in 2015. He has gone on to feature in several movies like The Wedding Party and its sequel The Wedding Party 2. Previously working as a journalist, he also works as a photographer and a filmmaker.

At a young age, he took an interest in acting drama as influenced by his late father who was a drama teacher. He is notable for his satirical plays which he shared on Instagram however came through with his parody drama "Jesu in Mushin".

Tatu is a 2017 Nigerian adventure film directed by Don Omope. It was written by Jude Idada and is an adaptation of the novel "Tatu", written by Abraham Nwankwo in 2014. The film received several nominations at the 2018 Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards. The film also received joint most nominations at the 2018 Africa Magic Choice Awards.

Lasisi Elenu Nigerian comedian and actor

Nosa Afolabi, better known as Lasisi Elenu, is a Nigerian comedian, actor, compere from Offa, Kwara in Nigeria. One of Africa's most popular influencers, he is known for his skits with a 'wide mouth' disguise filter during performances and on social media. Elenu was recently featured in Netflix thriller, The Ghost and the Tout.

Omo Ghetto: The Saga also known as Omo Ghetto 2 is a 2020 Nigerian gangster comedy film co-directed by Funke Akindele and JJC Skillz. The film stars Funke Akindele, Chioma Akpota, Nancy Isime, Eniola Badmus, Bimbo Thomas, Deyemi Okanlawon and Mercy Aigbe in the lead roles. This was the second film in the Omo Ghetto franchise and it was also the sequel to the 2010 trilogy film Omo Ghetto.
