The airline's headquarters were located in Santa Ana, and they had hired 22 employees including pilots, administrative personnel, and operations managers. The airline planned to recruit 120 people, many from Avianca, which dismantled its Costa Rican hub in May 2013, dismissing 261 employees. [1] [2] [3] [4] Ticos Air was founded by Gino Renzi, a 54-year-old Tico publicist. [5]
The airline initially planned to operate five Airbus A319 aircraft, and its inaugural destinations were supposed to be Mexico City, Caracas, Miami, and New York with ambitions to travel to South America, Europe, and Asia. [3] Documentation to obtain an air operating certificate was submitted to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation in Costa Rica in September 2013. [1] [3]
It was reported in February 2014 that the company had been struggling to secure investment, and that its launch was possibly losing momentum. Ticos Air had not presented any promised Airbus A319 aircraft, and was therefore unable to advance to the third phase of its certification, as expected. [6] In August 2014, Ticos Air decided to not start operations due to financial difficulties. [7]

Compañía Mexicana de Aviación, S.A. de C.V. was Mexico's oldest airline and one of the oldest continuously single-branded airlines, inaugurated in 1921. It was Mexico's biggest airline and flagship airline before ceasing operations on August 28, 2010.

Aviateca was under government ownership and remained so until 1989 when it joined the Grupo TACA alliance of Central America and was privatized. Avianca Brasil S.A., officially Oceanair Linhas Aéreas S/A, was a Brazilian airline based in Congonhas Airport in São Paulo, Brazil. According to the National Civil Aviation Agency of Brazil (ANAC), which cancelled its operation, prior to cessation of operations, from January to December 2018 Avianca Brasil had 13.4% of the domestic and 7.3% of the international market share in terms of passengers per kilometer flown, making it the fourth-largest airline both in domestic and international traffic in Brazil. The company slots were redistributed by Anac. An auction on 10 July 2019 raised R$555.3 million, not enough to pay a debt of R$2.7 billion, although Avianca's bankruptcy was not officially decreed.
Juan Santamaría International Airport is the primary airport serving San José, the capital of Costa Rica. The airport is located in the city of Alajuela, 20 kilometres west of downtown San José. It is named after Costa Rica's national hero, Juan Santamaría, a drummer boy who died in 1856 defending his country against forces led by American filibuster William Walker.

Aeroenlaces Nacionales, S.A. de C.V., trading as Viva Aerobus, is a Mexican low-cost airline fully owned by the largest bus company group in Mexico, IAMSA, and was co-founded by and invested in by Irelandia Aviation. Based in Monterrey International Airport, Mexico. Viva Aerobus started operations in November 2006 with only one nonstop service and, currently, it already offers more than 130 routes in more than 40 destinations serving Colombia, Cuba, the United States and Mexico with more than 100,000 flights per year. Its six bases are located in Cancun, Mexico City, Mérida, Guadalajara, Monterrey and Tijuana.

Melilla Airport is an airport located in Melilla, an exclave of Spain in Africa. The airport is located about 4 km (2.5 mi) southwest of the city, near the border with Morocco. Between 1931 and 1967 Melilla was served by the Tauima Aerodrome, even when Morocco had gained its independence in 1956. This Spanish controlled airport did not open until 1969. It has the capacity to move up to 500,000 passengers and the annual average number of passengers is around 400,000.
Azul Linhas Aéreas Brasileiras S/A is a Brazilian airline headquartered in Barueri, a suburb of São Paulo. The company's business model is to stimulate demand by providing frequent and affordable air service to underserved markets throughout Brazil. The company was named Azul after a naming contest in 2008, where "Samba" was the other popular name. Azul is a publicly traded company on the Brazilian stock exchange, with the ticker AZUL4. It was established on 5 May 2008 by Brazilian-born David Neeleman, with a fleet of 76 Embraer 195 jets. The airline began service on 15 December 2008.
Fast Colombia S.A.S., trading as Viva Air Colombia and formerly VivaColombia, was a Colombian ultra low-cost airline based in Rionegro, Antioquia, Colombia. It is a subsidiary of Irelandia Aviation and third largest airline in the country. The company is not legally affiliated with Mexico's Viva Aerobus, a fellow low-cost carrier co-founded by Irelandia which also uses the "Viva" brand, although they do have a codeshare agreement for their flights.

Vuela Aviacion S.A., operating as Volaris Costa Rica, is a low-cost airline based at Juan Santamaría International Airport in San José, Costa Rica. It is a subsidiary of Mexican airline Volaris. Announced in March 2016, the airline began operations in November with flights to Guatemala City.
