Ticos Air was a planned Costa Rican airline which never commenced operations. [1] [2]



The airline headquarters were located in Santa Ana, and they had hired 22 employees including pilots, administrative personnel, and operations managers. The airline planned to recruit 120 people, many from Avianca, which dismantled its Costa Rican hub in May 2013, dismissing 261 employees. [1] [2] [3] [4] Ticos Air was founded by Gino Renzi, a 54-year-old Tico publicist. [5]

The airline initially planned to operate five Airbus A319 aircraft, and its inaugural destinations were supposed to be Mexico City, Caracas, Miami, and New York with ambitions to travel to South America, Europe, and Asia. [3] Documentation to obtain an air operating certificate was submitted to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation in Costa Rica in September 2013. [1] [3]

It was reported in February 2014 that the company had been struggling to secure investment, and that its launch was possibly losing momentum. Ticos Air had not presented any promised Airbus A319 aircraft, and was therefore unable to advance to the third phase of its certification, as expected. [6] In August 2014, Ticos Air decided to not start operations due to financial difficulties. [7]

The group's closure was announced by the company's recently installed management team a short time after the group filed for Concurso Mercantil and US Chapter 15. On April 4, 2014, a judge declared Mexicana bankrupt and ordered to start selling off the company's assets to repay the airline's obligations. The headquarters of the company were in the Mexicana de Aviación Tower in Colonia del Valle, Benito Juárez, Mexico City.

Avianca Brasil, officially Oceanair Linhas Aéreas S/A, was a Brazilian airline based in Congonhas Airport in São Paulo, Brazil. According to the National Civil Aviation Agency of Brazil (ANAC), which cancelled its operation, prior to cessation of operations, from January to December 2018 Avianca Brasil had 13.4 % of the domestic and 7.3 % of the international market share in terms of passengers per kilometer flown, making it the fourth-largest airline both in domestic and international traffic in Brazil. The company slots were redistributed by Anac. An auction on 10 July 2019 raised R$ 555.3 million, not enough to pay a debt of R$ 2.7 billion, although Avianca's bankruptcy was not officially decreed.

Juan Santamaría International Airport is the primary airport serving San José, the capital of Costa Rica. The airport is located in the city of Alajuela, 20 km west of downtown San José. Air Costa Rica was an airline based in Juan Santamaría International Airport, San José, Costa Rica. The airline, a subsidiary of Air Panama, commenced operations in December 2015 with a fleet of one Boeing 737-300 aircraft. The airline mainly connected neighboring South and Central American cities from its hub in San Jose.

Avianca Argentina, legally incorporated as Avian Líneas Aéreas S.A., was an Argentine airline headquartered in Buenos Aires, Argentina, with its operational hub at Aeroparque Jorge Newbery in the city. The airline operated commercially under the Avianca brand through a license agreement, however, it was independent of the Avianca Holdings group of Latin American airlines.
