Time2Shine Gospel Talent Search was a UK gospel-based singing and music performance competition featuring auditions and a live final, all of which were recorded for transmission on the Sky platform. [1]

Contents

The series premiered in 2011 [2] and has been televised from the outset. Time2Shine Gospel Talent Search is the brainchild of MercyB, gospel singer, songwriter and entrepreneur, who is also the executive producer of the series.

Format

The Time2Shine Gospel Talent Search attracts unsigned, unmanaged musicians, groups or solo vocalists who are looking to establish a career as a gospel artist, whilst remaining true to their Christian faith. The competition process takes contestants through four distinct stages.

Auditions

Hopeful contestants apply online for auditions which are held in London, Birmingham and Manchester. At these auditions the judging panel filters and selects the best performances seen on the day. Those selected are invited to attend the call-back.

Call-back

At the call-back stage the best acts from regional auditions meet in London to compete. Those who make it past this stage will be awarded with a place at Time2Shine Gospel Talent Search boot-camp.

"BootCamp"

A place at "bootcamp" means each contestant is just one step away from becoming a Time2Shine series winner. At "bootcamp" they have access to vocal coaching [3] and receive guidance on stage presence and presentation. [4] The contestants also gain insight as to the business of entertainment and performance, receiving support towards developing their craft.

Each contestant also gets the opportunity to record their version of a specified song. If successful in going forward, they get to perform this song during the selection process at the live final.

Final

Live finals for Time2Shine Gospel Talent Search 2013 were held at the indigO2 at The O2 on Sunday 13 October. The 2014 finals were held at the Hackney Empire on Saturday 25 October. Both occasions were transmitted live on OHTV, (Sky 199). The OHTV Network reaches in excess of 25 million people per month via its international platform, 700,000 per month in the UK and a further five million people in China via 3G. The winning contestant was Annastasia Baker, chosen based upon a combination of votes from both the judges and the audience. The winner received a prize package valued at £100,000.

Winner's Prize

This package includes a £10,000 cash prize, a management contract, a recording contract to include the production of an album, a photo-shoot, performance at the Barbados Gospel Festival [5] and their own album launch concert. [6]

Dermot O'Leary returned to present the main show on ITV and Caroline Flack was back to present spin-off show The Xtra Factor on ITV2, along with comedian Matt Richardson, who replaced Olly Murs. Flack also presented backstage segments during the live shows. Louis Walsh, Gary Barlow and Nicole Scherzinger returned as judges for their respective tenth, third and second series, with Sharon Osbourne returning to replace Tulisa after five series away. X Factor Adria, usually referred simply as X Faktor, was a Balkan production of international talent show franchise of The X Factor. Stereo Kicks were an English-Irish boy band who were formed and were the twelfth contestant eliminated on the eleventh series of The X Factor in 2014. Stereo Kicks consisted of; James Graham, Jake Sims, Chris Leonard, Charlie Jones, Casey Johnson, Barclay Beales, Reece Bibby, and Tom Mann. Their debut single "Love Me So" was released on 21 June 2015 and charted at number 31 on the UK Singles Chart. Just a month later, however, having been together under a year, they announced they were disbanding due to their failure to land a record deal.

Rachel Charmaine Kerr is a British singer/songwriter, celebrity vocal coach and entrepreneur from Walsall, England. She is also the CEO and founder of Singercise. She is a member of the Grammy Award Association and a BET Music Matters endorsed artist.
