Tiny Doraine Ramathabatha Chidi (died 7 August 2024) was a South African politician who served as a member of the Limpopo Provincial Legislature from June 2024 until her death in August 2024, representing the Democratic Alliance.

Political career

A member of the Democratic Alliance, Chidi was elected a councillor of the Polokwane Local Municipality in 2016. [1] In January 2018, she was shot in the leg and hit on the head with a firearm during an attempted hijacking at her home in Polokwane. [2]

Chidi became a DA member of the Limpopo Provincial Legislature following 2024 national and provincial elections. [3] She was then appointed head of the party's Mopani constituency. [1]

Death

Chidi died following a short illness on 7 August 2024. She was survived by her husband and family. [4]

She served as a municipal councillor of the Mogalakwena Local Municipality prior to her appointment to provincial legislature. Maritz was a member of the Democratic Alliance (DA) until 2015, when she resigned from the party after allegations of racism. The DA soon laid criminal charges regarding racism against her in 2019.

Katlego Suzan Phala is a South African politician serving as a Member of the Limpopo Provincial Legislature for the Democratic Alliance. Phala was elected to the provincial legislature at the age of 22 in May 2014. She consequently became the youngest Member of the Provincial Legislature elected nationwide in that year's general election. Phala has since been re-elected in the May 2019 general election.

Evelyn "Lindy" Wilson is a South African politician who has served as the provincial leader of the Democratic Alliance in Limpopo since 2023. A former councillor for ward 20 in the Polokwane Local Municipality, Wilson was elected to the National Assembly of South Africa in 2014. She was then appointed Shadow Deputy Minister of Social Development. After the 2019 election, she became the Shadow Deputy Minister of Health. Wilson was sworn in as a member of the Limpopo Provincial Legislature in August 2023.

Benedicta Maria van Minnen is a South African politician and a member of the Democratic Alliance. She has been a member of the Western Cape Provincial. Previously, she served as a councillor in the City of Cape Town and as a Member of the National Assembly of South Africa.

Chantel King is a South African politician and educator. A member of the Democratic Alliance, she was sworn in as a Buffalo City councillor in July 2015. King became a Member of Parliament in November 2016. She then became Shadow Deputy Minister of Science and Technology in January 2017. In December 2020 King was appointed as Shadow Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology. King became a member of the Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature in 2024.

Bronwynn Anne Engelbrecht is a South African politician and pharmacist. A member of the Democratic Alliance, Engelbrecht served as the DA City of Tshwane ward 42 councillor until 2015 when she was appointed as a Permanent Delegate to the National Council of Provinces from Gauteng. After leaving parliament in 2019, Engelbrecht returned to the Tshwane city council as a DA PR councillor. In February 2021 she was sworn in as a member of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature.

Thembisile Phumelele Simelane-Nkadimeng is a South African politician who is currently serving as the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development since July 2024. A member of the African National Congress (ANC), she was previously the Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs between March 2023 and June 2024.

Bertha Amanda Joyce Matshoge, commonly known as Joy Matshoge, was a South African politician who served as Limpopo's Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Agriculture and Rural Development from May 2014 until her death in June 2016. Before that, from 2013 to 2014, she was the Deputy Speaker of the Limpopo Provincial Legislature, where she had represented the African National Congress (ANC) since 2008. At the time of her death, she was also the Provincial Chairperson of the ANC Women's League in Limpopo, a position to which she had been elected in September 2015.

Nkome Sarah Monyamane is a South African politician who has represented the African National Congress (ANC) in the Limpopo Provincial Legislature since 2019. She was formerly the Mayor of Mookgophong Local Municipality from 2011 to 2016.

Nkholo Victor "Tolly" Mashamaite is a South African politician from Limpopo. He represented the African National Congress (ANC) in the Limpopo Provincial Legislature between August 2018 and May 2024. He served on the ANC Provincial Executive Committee in Limpopo from 2018 to 2022.
