Titanes en el ring (Titans in the ring) was an Argentine lucha libre television program aired between 3 March 1962 and 1988. [1]
The Armenian Argentine Martín Karadagián (1922-1991) had started at 15 years old practicing Greco-Roman wrestling in the Asociación Cristiana de Jóvenes. The following year he joined a troupe of wrestlers, with which he traveled to Europe. [2] After returning to Argentina in 1947, Karadagián maintained a fight at Luna Park against Ivan Zelezniak, El Hombre Montaña. After to give up the fight Zelezniak (five-time champion from 1947 to 1951), the Armenian was already one of the most attractive conveners of the wrestling in Buenos Aires. [3]
In 1950s Karadagián fought against former heavyweight champion Primo Carnera. [4] And in 1957 he maintained a wrestling match in the stadium of Boca Juniors, against former boxer José María Gatica, el mono. [5] That same year, Karadagian starred in Reencuentro con la gloria , movie where a wrestler ("Pantera") accidentally killed a rival during a fight. [6]
In 1961 Karadagián fought at Luna Park against Capitan Piluso, played by actor Alberto Olmedo. Following the success of combat was filmed the movie Las aventuras del Capitán Piluso (En el castillo del terror) with Martín Karadagián in the role of villain. [7]
Martín Karadagián creates Titans in the ring in 1962, the TV show airs on Canal 9 in live from Luna Park. [8] Karadagian had hired great figures of wrestling as El Hombre Montaña , Eduardo "Alí" Bargach (bodybuilder), Alberto Eijo , Pedro Goitía , Dakar , Ararat , el Indio Comanche , Mister Chile , and Hans Águila as referee. [9] Karadagian himself appeared regularly in the show, in which he was regarded as the "World Champion". [10] [11]
In 1964 José Luis López (el campeón español) joined in Titans, time after, Karadagiám hired the wrestlers Rubén Peucelle el Ancho, Pedro Bocos, Ulises, Humberto Reynoso El Caballero Rojo and Domingo Lucciarini Pepino el Payaso.
In the late 1960s Titanes en el Ring incorporates a fantastic wrestling match against El Hombre invicible. In 1967 Karadagián was starring in the science fiction classic El hombre invisible ataca with Gilda Lousek, Tristán and Ricardo Passano. [12]
In 1970s Titanes en el Ring moved to Canal 13, Karadagián incorporates fantastic and mythological characters as El Vikingo, Don Quijote y Sancho Panza, D’Artagnan, el Mosquetero , El Acuanauta, Poseidon, El Cavernario, La Momia Negra and others.
In 1972 Karadagián faces La Momia for the world championship. The evening was held at the Luna Park stadium, with a draw. [13]
Other classic wrestling battles included Peucelle vs José Luis, Tenembaum vs Tufic Memet, El Coreano sun vs Silvio, Karadagián vs Ararat el armenio, Karadagián vs Durante, Mercenario Joe vs el Vasco Guipúzcoa, Gitano Ivanoff vs David el Pastor, El Ejecutivo vs Ivanoff. And La Momia blanca vs La Momia negra.
Titanes also had a cheater referee William Boo. Other famous arbiters include Alfredo Giardina, Albert Jaitt, El Conde Schiaffino, Professor Eduardo Davis and Johnny Well.
Titanes en el Ring season of 1982 was one of the most successful, Karadagián incorporates new characters as Mister Moto, el Pibe 10, Julio César, el Romano, El Diabolo, Nerón. The gang El Padrino, Long and Short. And the Brotherhood of Mongols Kanghai el Mongol and Genghis Khan.
Iván Kowalski and Juan Enrique Dos Santos (gitano Ivanoff), were the first wrestlers who had personified La Momia. Juan Manuel Figueroa was La Momia between 1975 and 1988.
Titans in the Ring was narrated and commented by Rodolfo Di Sarli, and Jorge Bocacci was the responsible for the presentation ceremony. [14]
Originally focused on adult audience, during the years it was gradually adapted for targeting a younger audience. [10]
It enjoyed its peak popularity in the early 1970s; in 1972 a Titanes en el Ring music album, featuring the theme songs of the wrestlers, got a large commercial success, and from the same year tapes of the shows started being exported abroad. [10] In 1973 a deal with the Felfort-brand of chocolate bonbons "Jack" also helped to popularize the program and its athletes. [10] In the 1970s the show also did two large tours in Latin America. [10]
Two films based on the show were produced: Titanes en el ring , released in 1973, and Titanes en el ring contrataca , released in 1984.
In the 1990s, Martín Karadagian's daughter tried to re-launch Titanes, but it lasted only a few months. [1]
Rodolfo Guzmán Huerta, known profesionally as El Santo or in English The Saint, was a Mexican Luchador enmascarado, actor and folk hero. El Santo is one of the most famous and iconic Mexican luchadores, and has been referred to as one of "the greatest legends in Mexican sports". His wrestling career spanned nearly five decades, during which he became a folk hero and a symbol of justice for the common man through his appearances in lucha films and comic books telling fictionalized stories of El Santo fighting for justice. He starred or co-starred in at least 52 movies between 1958 and 1982.
Pedro Aguayo Ramírez was a Mexican luchador or professional wrestler and promoter who achieved fame in lucha libre as Perro Aguayo Jr. or El Hijo del Perro Aguayo. He was the real-life son of lucha libre legend Perro Aguayo and not a storyline "Junior". Aguayo was best known as the leader of the Los Perros del Mal stable, which he started in Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL) in mid-2004. The stable became a significant draw in Mexican professional wrestling, peaking during Aguayo's storyline rivalries with Místico and Héctor Garza. In October 2008, Aguayo left CMLL to start his own independent professional wrestling promotion Perros del Mal Producciones, built around members of his Los Perros del Mal stable. In June 2010, Aguayo returned to AAA after a seven-year absence to start an invasion storyline involving his stable.

Octavio López Arreola is a Mexican professional wrestler who is best known under the ring name Cibernético and for working for the Lucha Libre AAA World Wide (AAA) promotion in Mexico. During AAA's short partnership with the World Wrestling Federation, he participated in the 1997 Royal Rumble and wrestled on Raw is War and WWF Shotgun Saturday Night, often teaming with Pierroth Jr. He is a former AAA Mega Champion as well as a former three time Campeón de Campeones, the predecessor to the AAA world championship.
Olga Zubarry was a classic Argentine actress who appeared in film between 1943 and 1997. She made over 60 appearances in film, spanning 6 decades of Argentine cinema, but is best known for her work during the Golden Age of Argentine Cinema. Throughout the course of her career, she received four Silver Condor Awards, two Martín Fierro Awards, a Konex Foundation Award and several others for her films and television performances. She is credited with starring in the first film in Argentina which featured nudity, though only her back was shown and she stated repeatedly that she wore a flesh-colored mesh and was not truly nude.
Oziel Toscano Jasso is a Mexican professional wrestler, or Luchador as they are known in Spanish. He has achieved most success under the ring names Tarzan Boy and Toscano. After making his professional wrestling debut in 1993 he has worked for a number of notable professional wrestling promotions in and outside of Mexico such as Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre, AAA, the World Wrestling Federation, International Wrestling Revolution Group, and Promo Azteca. Toscano's ring character is that of a Latin hearth-throb. He has also competed under the ring names Armando Fernandez, Baby Toscano/Babe Toscano, Tarzan Toscano, and Zorro during his career.

Martín Caparrós is a writer. His father was Antonio Caparrós, a renowned psychiatrist. Caparrós begun professional writing at age sixteen, shortly after graduating from high school at the Colegio Nacional de Buenos Aires. His first professional job in journalism was with the now defunct daily Noticias. In 1976, Caparrós fled to exile following the military coup led by General Jorge Rafael Videla. In Paris, he obtained a degree in history at the University of Paris. Caparrós would later relocate to Madrid, Spain. During the early 1980s, he resettled to Buenos Aires and since then he has produced a vast body of work including fiction and nonfiction alike.
Jorge Luis Alcantar Bolly, is a Mexican second-generation luchador. He is currently signed to WWE, where he performs on the NXT brand under the ring name Santos Escobar, as the leader of Legado Del Fantasma.
Alfonso Peña is a Mexican luchador, or professional wrestler best known under the ring name Histeria currently working for Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide. He also worked for Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL) under the ring name Morphosis. Peña is best known for the 14 years he worked for AAA, until leaving in 2009. He is the second person to wrestle as "Histeria", taking over from the previous wrestler who became known as Super Crazy. There was later a third Histeria wrestling for AAA. Until December 25, 2016 Peña's real name was not a matter of public record, as is often the case with masked wrestlers, but on December 25 he lost a Lucha de Apuestas match to Carístico, which forced him to unmask and reveal his real name per lucha libre traditions.
Jesús Alfonso Huerta Escoboza was a Mexican luchador enmascarado, or masked professional wrestler, better known as La Parka who worked for the Mexican professional wrestling promotion AAA from the mid-1990s until 2019. On January 11, 2020, Huerta died from complications arising from injuries that he sustained from a botched move during an October 2019 match.
Mini Abismo Negro is the ring name of a Mexican Luchador enmascarado who works in the Mini-Estrella division for Asistencia Asesoría y Administración (AAA). Mini Abismo Negro is a former, two time Mexican National Mini-Estrellas Champion and the former AAA World Mini-Estrella Champion, the only wrestler to hold both titles. Mini Abismo Negro's real name is not a matter of public record, as is often the case with masked wrestlers in Mexico where their private lives are kept a secret from the wrestling fans. Working in the Mini division does not automatically mean that he has dwarfism as several short wrestlers work in the "Mini" division, including Mini Abismo Negro.
Ángel Omar Reyes Franco is a Mexican luchador or professional wrestler, better known as Máscara Año 2000 Jr. He is working for Lucha Libre AAA World Wide (AAA), and International Wrestling Revolution Group (IWRG). Máscara Año 2000 Jr. originally worked under a mask and his real name was not a matter of public record, until he lost his mask in a match in August 2012. His father Jesús Reyes González wrestled under the ring name Máscara Año 2000. He is a former holder of the IWRG Intercontinental Heavyweight Championship and a co-holder of the IWRG Intercontinental Tag Team Championship along with El Hijo de Cien Caras. In the United States he is best known through his appearance on the travel show Dhani Tackles the Globe, where he wrestled host Dhani Jones in an episode of the show's second season.

Dalys la Caribeña is a Panamanian luchadora, or female professional wrestler currently working for the Mexican professional wrestling promotion Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL), where she is the current CMLL Japanese Women's Champion in her first reign. Her name appears in print as Dalys la Caribeña, Dalys, Dallys and Dalis but all refer to the same person. Her name means Daly "The Caribbean Girl". She is a second-generation wrestler, her father is a retired wrestler turned wrestling promoter in Panama, her brother wrestles in Mexico under the ring name Veneno and she is related through marriage to Negro Casas to the extended Casas wrestling family.
Francisco Segura García was a Mexican Boxer, Movie actor and Luchador, or professional wrestler best known under the ring name Firpo Segura, given the name after the Argentine boxer Luis Ángel Firpo. As a boxer he held both the Mexican Light Heavyweight and Heavyweight Championship and as a luchador he won the Mexican National Heavyweight Championship on four occasions and the Mexican National Middleweight Championship once. Segura became one of the first Mexican born stars of Lucha Libre and is at times referred to as the "First Idol of Lucha Libre" being one of the first Mexican born wrestlers to receive top billing in lucha libre.
Dakar was a Peruvian actor. He appeared in more than twenty films from 1964 to 1982. He also was dedicated to professional wrestling in Argentina, and fought in the Luna Park against Martín Karadagián. In 1973 Dakar participated in the film Titanes en el ring.
