To Anyone Like Me is the debut EP by Canadian singer Carys. The EP was released on October 2, 2020, through Warner Music Canada, and features the singles "Princesses Don't Cry", "No More", "Crush" and "When a Girl".
To Anyone Like Me acts as Carys' debut body of work, with Aviva Mongillo, who uses Carys as a stage name, having previously released an EP titled Songs About Boys (2017). Upon its release, Songs About Boys featured the song "Princesses Don't Cry"; however, after the success of the song due to its use on video-sharing platform TikTok, [1] Mongillo transferred the song to To Anyone Like Me, and released an accompanying music video. [2] On June 26, 2020, "No More" was released as the second single from the EP, accompanied by a music video. [3] After the song's release, Carys explained that it was her first song that felt authentic to her, stating that her previous releases "didn't ever feel like it really encompassed every part of [her]". [4] To Anyone Like Me was announced on August 28, 2020, alongside the release of the EP's third single, "Crush". On the song, Carys said that wrote it by "embracing [her] childish side", and that she wrote it when she met her partner at the time. [5]
On the process of making To Anyone Like Me, Carys stated that she "was writing the songs for this EP with the intention to get out how I had been feeling about all the parts of my life I was ready to let go of and the resistance to letting go". She added that the songs were "written in a period of a lot of self-reflection and growth. The need for validation, people-pleasing, romanticising the past, fearing the future", and that "To Anyone Like Me represents the different stages of healing and the complicated journey of beginning to recognize our inherent worth". [6] Upon the release of To Anyone Like Me, the song "When a Girl" was released as a single, with an accompanying music video. [7]
Kayla Higgins of CJRU gave To Anyone Like Me a score of 7/10. On the opening track, "Love (Validation)", Higgins praised the vulnerable lyricism, and noted that such vulnerability is rarely seen in mainstream pop music. Higgins also praised the second track, "No More", noting Carys' "angelic and powerful vocals", and went on to say that the sound of the song is "the future of pop". Higgins criticised "Crush", billing it as the weakest song on the EP, and "forgettable". She wrote that the song feels incomplete, the chorus is monotone, and that the lyrical content of the song is disappointing in contrast to the potential that the title "Crush" has. She then claimed that the final three songs on To Anyone Like Me were the "strongest and most vulnerable tracks on the record". Higgins noted that "Princesses Don't Cry" and "When a Girl" encapsulate the struggles of both life of a woman in the music industry and everyday life "elegantly", and that the running order of these tracks alongside "Maybe I'll Call You" are ordered aesthetically, again praising her vocals on the songs. Higgins concluded by saying that To Anyone Like Me is a strong debut project, noting the EP's "powerful narratives that are supported by an upbeat sound", and listed "When a Girl" and "Maybe I'll Call You" as "bops". Amelia Cordischi of Echo praised the EP, stating that each of the songs included highlighted Carys' "ability to tell vulnerable, thought provoking, powerful, and cathartic stories wrapped in upbeat pop melodies". [6]

Cinderella's Eyes is the debut studio album by English recording artist Nicola Roberts. It was released on 23 September 2011 by Polydor Records. As a member of the British girl group Girls Aloud, Roberts drew inspiration from her time with the group. Her experience with Girls Aloud's formation found her being labelled "ugly" by the media, and the constant negative attention and subsequent personal problems resulted in her struggling with her confidence. She started recording for the album in 2010 and co-wrote all of the original tracks on the album, working closely with producers Dimitri Tikovoï, Maya von Doll and Diplo on the album, as well as Canadian electropop band Dragonette. The concept of the album derived from fairy tales, focusing mostly upon "Cinderella" after titling the album Cinderella's Eyes. The album artwork features Roberts next to a collection of vintage artefacts wearing a modern interpretation of the Cinderella glass slipper, co-produced by shoe designer Atalanta Weller.
Brooke Dyan Candy is an American rapper, singer, songwriter, and tattoo artist. Raised in the suburbs of Los Angeles, daughter of Tom Candy, former CFO of Hustler magazine, Brooke rose to prominence after starring in Grimes' music video for "Genesis" (2012). Following its success, Candy's status in the underground scene rose as she began to release her own music, including the songs "Das Me" (2012), "Everybody Does" (2013), and "I Wanna Fuck Right Now" (2013). In 2014, she signed a recording contract with RCA and released her debut major label single, "Opulence", with an accompanying EP of the same name. Later, she joined Columbia's UK roster.

She released her debut studio album, Metallic Butterfly, in 2014, followed by the 2015 mixtape Honeysuckle. As Princess Nokia, she rose to prominence for her 2017 studio album 1992 Deluxe. She released another mixtape, titled A Girl Cried Red, in 2018, followed by the release of two studio albums, Everything Sucks and Everything Is Beautiful, in 2020.
"Try" is a song by American singer-songwriter Colbie Caillat from her fifth studio album, Gypsy Heart (2014). It was released on June 9, 2014 by Republic Records as the lead single from the album. The song was written by Caillat, Jason Reeves, Babyface and Antonio Dixon and was produced by the latter two. Her first single "Strange Enough" was self-released in July 2014, reaching number one on Hype Machine and becoming the #1 Most Viral Twitter Artist the week of release. Described variously as indie pop, electropop or alternative pop, Liza Darwin of Noisey wrote that her 2014 Echo EP is "packed with crisp, delicate vocals, soaring melodies, and glistening production." Her second EP, Sentiment, was self-released on June 8, 2015. The EP was praised by Time, who called her vocals "rich and ethereal". She has toured internationally and performed at events such as Neon Gold Popshop, South by Southwest, The Knitting Factory, Brooklyn Bowl, the Firefly Festival and Lollapalooza.
Manos Arriba is an extended play (EP) by American singer Rosanna Tavarez released by her own record label Patacon Productions in March 2008. Tavarez adopted the stage name Chana while pursuing a music career in Latin alternative music and used it for the EP. Chana rose to prominence in 2001 as a member of the girl group Eden's Crush. Following their disbandment, she worked as a host on music television shows and decided to record Spanish-language music after meeting producer Marthin Chan. She had previously rejected working with Latin music producers because she did not want to pursue a career in conventional Latin pop.
