Toaster is a Netflix movie that stars Rajkummar Rao and Sanya Malhotra. It is a quirky comedy about a miser or kanjoos who becomes obsessed with a toaster that he gave as a wedding gift to a newly married couple, in the middle of a murder and mayhem. This is Rao's fifth collaboration with Netflix as actor after Ludo, Monica, O My Darling, The White Tiger, and Guns & Gulaabs. Produced under the KAMPA Films banner by Rao and his actress wife Patralekhaa, this is Patralekhaa's debut film as a producer. The film also stars Archana Puran Singh, Upendra Limaye, Farah Khan, Abhishek Banerjee, Jitendra Joshi, and Seema Pahwa. Toaster was released on Netflix on 19 August 2025.
Rajkumar Rao plays the role of a kanjoos / miser Ramakant who is married to Sanya Malhotra. The couple gifts a INR 5000 worth toaster to a couple at their wedding as wedding gift, which was a day later dissolved. Trouble is compounded when the couple gets entangled in a murder case as the miser Ramakant is obsessed to get his toaster back from the couple’s families as things go south, leading to a series of hilarious mishaps. This results in a complex web of secrets and surprises all centred around a seemingly ordinary toaster.
The film was produced by the husband-wife duo Rajkummar Rao and Patralekhaa under their production house KAMPA Films banner. [4] Patralekhaa said she didn't want to act in her home production as she wanted to understand and learn how film production works. [5]
The film was announced on 22 May 2024, originally Sonakshi Sinha was set to play the female lead but was later replaced with Sanya Malhotra, before filming began in later half of 2024. Archana Puran Singh who has termed her role as the best role of her career so far, has previously worked with Rao in Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video. [6] Abhishek Banerjee agreed on doing a cameo on request of Rajkummar Rao in the film, as friendship gesture; as the 2 actors share great camaraderie since the time of working together on Stree, Stree 2. Seema Pahwa will reunite with Rajkummar Rao after Bareilly Ki Barfi. Also Rajkummar Rao and Sanya Malhotra have reunited once again 3 years after Ludo, and HIT: The First Case. [7] Most actors had previously worked with each other in various films with exception of Farah Khan. [8]

[10] During the filming Archana Puran Singh suffered a freak accident when she fell while doing an early morning shoot in Virar and fractured her right wrist. She underwent a surgery and attended the film announcement wearing a cast in her hand. Despite the hand in cast, she completed her role with filming done carefully not to show her injury. [11]
The teaser of the film was released on 3 February 2025. [12] [13] The film produced exclusively for Netflix, was released on 19 August 2025 to stream on the OTT platform. [14]
