Zielony in 2015

Tobias Zielony (born 1973) [1] is a German photographer and short filmmaker, living in Berlin. [2] He has made work about communities at the margins of society, such as young people. [3] [4] [5] [6] [7] In 2015, Zielony's series on African refugees in Germany, the Citizen, co-represented the country at the Venice Biennale and was shortlisted for the Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation Prize. [8] [9] He had a mid-career retrospective at Museum Folkwang in Essen, Germany in 2021 [10] and his work is held in the collection of Philadelphia Museum of Art. [11]

Biography

Zielony was born in Wuppertal, Germany. From 1998 to 2001, he studied documentary photography at the University of Wales, Newport in Wales. [2] From 2001 to 2006, he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Leipzig. [12] He now lives in Berlin. [2]

Boaz M. Levin is a Berlin-based writer, curator and filmmaker. His curatorial work deals with histories of ecology and technology and the ways these have influenced visual culture. His essay, "On Distance", was published by Atlas Projectos, Berlin, as part of the Next Spring series of occasional reviews.His writing has been published by magazines such as Camera Austria, Texte Zur Künst, and Frieze. He is an AICA, and has been an ICOM member. Levin has curated exhibitions at the Martin-Gropius-Bau, Heidelberger Kunstverein, The Jewish Museum Munich, and Kunstraum Kreuzberg/Bethanien, the Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe, Hamburg, and KunstHausWien, and C/O Berlin, among other venues. Levin is the co-founder, together with Vera Tollmann and Hito Steyerl, of the Research Center for Proxy Politics.

C/O Berlin is a private exhibition space for photography and visual media in Berlin. It is located in Amerika Haus Berlin by Zoologischer Garten station, Charlottenburg, where it has more than 2,500 square metres of space. C/O Berlin presents works by national and international artists, supports emerging talents, and organizes educational events on visual media and art. It was founded in 2000 by Stephan Erfurt, Marc Naroska and Ingo Pott and originally located in the old Royal Post Office (Postfuhramt). C/O Berlin is supported by a non-profit foundation under the direction of Stephan Erfurt. The deputy chairman is Dr. Andreas Behr.
