Toby Couchman (born 16 September 2003) is an Australian professional rugby league footballer who plays as a prop for the St. George Illawarra Dragons in the National Rugby League (NRL).
Couchman was born in Wollongong, New South Wales. He has three siblings, Ryan, Harvy and Fletcher. He was educated at Bulli High School. He played junior rugby league for Thirroul Butchers. [1] [2]
Couchman was contracted to the St. George Illawarra Dragons as a junior coming through the ranks through the academy system alongside his twin brother Ryan Couchman. [3] [4] In June 2022, while playing in the Jersey Flegg Cup for the Dragons, Couchman was selected to represent New South Wales in the Under 19's State of Origin match against Queensland. [1]
In round 2 of the 2023 NRL season, Couchman made his first grade debut for the St. George Illawarra Dragons in place of the injured Jack de Belin in his side's 32−18 victory over the Gold Coast Titans at Jubilee Oval. [5] Following this, Couchman had his contract extended through the 2025 season. [6] [7] Couchman would play a total of 15 games for the club in the 2023 NRL season as they finished 16th on the table. [8] Couchman played eleven matches for St. George Illawarra in the 2024 NRL season as the club finished 11th on the table. [9] On 13 November the Dragons announced that the Couchman brothers had re-signed with the club on a three year deal. [10]
The Illawarra Steelers are an Australian rugby league football club based in the city of Wollongong, New South Wales. The club competed in Australia's top-level rugby league competition from 1982 until 1998. On 13 December 1980, they were the first non-Sydney based team to be admitted into the New South Wales Rugby League premiership, with the Canberra Raiders being admitted later ensuring an even number of teams in the competition for the start of their first season, 1982. Over their seventeen years in the top grade, the club received three wooden spoons, made the play-offs twice and had a total of three of its players selected to play for the Australia national rugby league team.

The St. George Illawarra Dragons are an Australian professional rugby league football club, representing both the Illawarra and St George regions of New South Wales. The club has competed in the National Rugby League (NRL) since 1999 after a joint-venture was formed between the St. George Dragons and the Illawarra Steelers. The club officially formed as the game's first joint-venture club on 23 September 1998 and remains the only inter-city team in the NRL.
