Tom Brantley (born 1970) is an American trombonist and academic.
Brantley was born in 1970 in Louisiana. He is a third-generation trombonist. [1] Brantley earned music degrees from the University of Southern Mississippi (BM) and the University of North Texas (MM). He majored in trombone performance at both schools. Brantley was taught by Neil Slater.
Brantley joined the chamber ensemble Rhythm &Brass [2] in 1995 and continues to tour and record with the group. He appears on many Rhythm &Brass recordings,including Ellington Explorations (1998),which upon release was named the New York Times Album of the Week, [3] Sitting in An English Garden (2001),and Inside the Blue Suitcase (2005). He also records with the chamber group Confluences,and their self-titled debut CD appeared in 2004.
Brantley's first solo CD project, [4] entitled Boneyard,was released on the Summit Records label. [5] Reviews of the CD Boneyard include the Jazz Society of Oregon [6] as well as JazzReview.com magazine. [7] Other reviews include Bill Milkowski's in JazzTimes magazine [8] and Ken Dryden of AllMusic. [9]
The Brass Herald,the UK journal devoted to brass music,published a review of Boneyard (May 2009),as well as a feature article about Brantley (October 2009).
Brantley has published two different trombone etude books with Carl Fischer Music. Student's Essential Studies for Trombone includes 42 etudes taken from the various collections publishing by Carl Fischer. Stylistic Etudes for Trombone includes 20 original compositions by Tom Brantley,designed to help students master various styles required of a trombone player in a variety of performance settings.
Brantley serves as professor of trombone at the University of South Florida in Tampa. He is an occasional reviewer for many publications on topics of interest to trombonists and other brass musicians. [10] Brantley performs on Yamaha trombones and has offered podcasts through the Yamaha Artists series. [11] Brantley appeared as a featured artist on the 2009 Clearwater Jazz Holiday program. [12] He has also served as a member of the faculty for the 2007 International Trombone Festival [13] as well as the 2011 International Trombone Festival.
J. J. Johnson,born James Louis Johnson and also known as Jay Jay Johnson,was an American jazz trombonist,composer and arranger.
Kai Chresten Winding was a Danish-born American trombonist and jazz composer. He is known for his collaborations with fellow trombonist J. J. Johnson. His version of "More",the theme from the movie Mondo Cane,reached in 1963 number 8 in the Billboard Hot 100 and remained his only entry here.

Marco Katz serves as an editor for a series that brings together music and literature at Palgrave Macmillan. He plays trombone and arranges and composes music for band,brass quintet and other musical ensembles. The reviewer Adam Gaines,in a review of the Bundee Brothers Bone Band album,wrote that "Katz's compositions are a real highlight of the disc. His trombone writing is expertly idiomatic,and his music is harmonically interesting without being obtuse." Mundo Universitario,a program televised by the University of Valle,featured "Marco Katz,master of literature and a professional musician,who was the last trombonist with the legends Charlie Palmieri and Mon Rivera."

Coming Through Slaughter:The Bolden Legend is the first large ensemble jazz album by composer Dave Lisik. It features trumpeter Tim Hagans,saxophonist Donny McCaslin,trombonist Luis Bonilla,and drummer Matt Wilson. The title and inspiration of the music and recording comes from the novel Coming Through Slaughter from the author Michael Ondaatje.
Thesaurus is an album by American composer/arranger/pianist Clare Fischer,recorded and released in 1969 by Atlantic Records. Reissued in 1979 as 'Twas Only Yesterday by Discovery Records,and on CD,again by Discovery,in 1988 as part of a CD entitled Waltz,encompassing both Thesaurus and the 1980 LP,Duality. In 2000,Thesaurus received a dedicated CD reissue under its original title from Koch Records.
Steve Wiest(néJohn Stephen Wiest;born 1957) is an American trombonist,composer,arranger,big band director,music educator at the collegiate level,jazz clinician,author,and illustrator/cartoonist. From 1981 to 1985,he was a featured trombonist and arranger with the Maynard Ferguson Band. Wiest is in his tenth year as Associate Professor of Jazz Studies and Commercial Music at the University of Denver Lamont School of Music. He is the Coordinator of the 21st Century Music Initiative at the school. Wiest has been a professor for thirty-five of the forty-three years that he has been a professional trombonist,composer,and arranger. From 2007 to 2014,Wiest was Associate Professor of Music in Jazz Studies at the University of North Texas College of Music and,from March 2009 to August 2014,he was director of the One O'Clock Lab Band and coordinator of the Lab Band program. At North Texas,Wiest also taught conducting,trombone,and oversaw The U-Tubes —the College of Music's jazz trombone band. Wiest is a three-time Grammy nominee —individually in 2008 for Best instrumental Arrangement and in 2010 for Best Instrumental Composition,and collaboratively in 2010 for Best Large Jazz Ensemble Album,which he directed. As of 2013,Wiest has in excess of 58 arrangements and compositions to his credit,which include 10 original compositions from his current project (see 2013–2014 project below).

On the album,Rudd appears in different brass band combinations. On five tracks,Rudd appears in a sextet with trombonists Steve Swell and Deborah Weisz,tubist Bob Stewart,bassist and violinist Henry Grimes,and drummer Barry Altschul,while two tracks feature Rudd with five additional trombones plus Altschul. The remaining tracks include members of the bands Bonerama,Sexmob,and the GangbéBrass Band of Benin.
