Tom Nicholls (born 24 September 1983) is a West Australian former representative lightweight rower. He was an Australian national champion, an U23 world champion and won a bronze medal at the 2004 World Rowing Championships.
Nicholls was raised in Perth. His senior club rowing was from the Perth's Swan River Rowing Club.
He first made state selection for Western Australia in 2002 in the men's lightweight coxless four which contested the Penrith Cup at the Interstate Regatta within the Australian Rowing Championships. That 2002 West Australian four with Nicholls in the bow seat dead-heated for first place with Tasmanian. [1] He rowed in further West Australian Penrith Cup fours in 2003 [2] and 2004. [3]
Nicholls made his Australian representative debut in 2002 at the World Rowing Cup II in Lucerne in a lightweight coxless pair with his West Australian team-mate Ross Brown. They rowed to sixth place. They went on to the 2002 World Rowing U23 Championships in Genoa where they won a silver medal in the coxless pair. [4]
In 2003 Nicholls and Brown teamed up with the Tasmanians Tom Gibson and Cameron Wurf in a lightweight coxless four. They finished in overall twelfth place at the World Rowing Cup III in Lucerne but then at the 2003 World Rowing U23 Championships in Belgrade they took the gold medal and claimed an U23 World Championship. In 2004 he moved fully into the Australian senior squad in the lightweight eight. That boat rowed to bronze medal at the 2004 World Rowing Championships in Banyoles, Spain. [4]
Anthony John Edwards is an Australian former lightweight rower. He is a five time Olympian, triple Olympic medallist, a world champion and a six-time Australian national champion. He represented Australia at the premier world regattas consistently over a twenty-year period from 1993 to 2012.
Ross Brown is an Australian former national and world champion lightweight rower.
Michael McBryde is an Australian former lightweight rower. He was a national champion, an U23 World Champion and a medallist at senior World Championships.
Glen Loftus is an Australian former lightweight rower. He was a national champion, an U23 world champion and an Olympic silver medalist. In competitive retirement he was a coach and a rowing administrator in Western Australia.
Benjamin Cureton is an Australian former lightweight rower. He was an eight-time national champion, a world champion and a three-time Olympian. He won his world championship in the men's lightweight fours, and an Olympic silver medal in that boat class in Athens 2004. He competed at two further Olympics in this discipline. For a twelve-year period from 2001 – excepting 2009 and 2010 – Cureton held his seat in all the Australian lightweight coxless fours selected to race at the premier world regattas.
Rebecca Sattin is an Australian rower, a two time World Champion and Olympic medal winner. She had success at the elite world level as both a sculler and a sweep-oared rower.
Samuel Beltz is an Australian former lightweight rower. He is a 16-time national champion, a world champion and dual Olympian. He competed at the 2008 and 2012 Summer Olympics and represented Australia at the premier world class regattas over a fifteen-year period from 1999 to 2014.
Roderick Chisholm is a British lightweight class former rower who represented both Great Britain and Australia at world championships. He is an Australian national champion, a World Champion and a dual Olympian who competed at the world class level in both sculls and in sweep-oared boats.
Thomas Gibson is an Australian lightweight rower. He is a twelve-time Australian national champion, a world champion and a dual Olympian.
Haimish John Karrasch is an Australian former rower. He was a nine-time Queensland state representative, an eight-time Australian national champion, a dual Olympian and won a silver medal at the 1999 World Rowing Championships.
