Tomas Tomilinas (born 22 April 1983) is a Lithuanian trade unionist and politician of Polish origin. He was elected to the Seimas with the Lithuanian Farmers and Greens Union in 2016,but was expelled from the party in 2021 and joined the Union of Democrats "For Lithuania".
Tomilinas was born in Vilnius in 1983 to a Polish mother and Russian father. [1] He graduated from Vilnius University with a bachelor's degree in political science in 2005 and from Mykolas Romeris University with a master's degree in public administration in 2007. [2]
He helped establish the Trade Union of Commercial Workers (Lithuanian:Prekybos darbuotojųprofesinėsąjunga) in 2007. [3] [4] He was one of the founding members of the Social Investment Management Centre, [3] a public organization which promotes trade unions,education on ecology and climate change,socially responsible investing,and human rights, [5] and a founder of the left-wing progressive think-tank DEMOS. [3] [6]
He has been married twice. He met his second wife,Kristina Juozapavičiūtė,in their political party. [1]
Tomilinas joined the Union of Peasants and New Democratic Parties,the predecessor of the Lithuanian Farmers and Greens Union,in 2002. In 2010,he established the Greens Group within the party (then still known as the Peasant Popular Union). [7]
He was an assistant to Member of the Seimas Laima Mogenienė from 2004 to 2008 and assistant to Member of the Seimas Antanas Baura from 2008 to 2012. From 2012 to 2016,he was head of the office of European Parliament member Bronius Ropė. He was also a coordinator of the 2012 Lithuanian nuclear power referendum. [3] In the 2016 Lithuanian parliamentary election,he ran in the Paneriai constituency,but lost to Linas Balsys. However,he entered parliament through the party's multi-member constituency list. He became the deputy chair of the Seimas Social Affairs and Labour Committee. [8]
In 2017,he proposed blocking the Lithuanian Free Market Institute from sending letters to members of the Seimas. [9] He came in conflict with his party over taxation reform in 2018 and his proposal to introduce a 20 percent VAT rate on personal income from capital,which was opposed by the rest of the party. [10] He proposed establishing a five percent quota for disabled persons in public institutions in 2018. [11]
Tomilinas was reelected in the 2020 Lithuanian parliamentary election in the constituency of Deltuva north,which includes the town of Anykščiai and surrounding regions. [2] His relationship with the rest of the party became tense after the election as it turned towards the right on social issues,proclaiming its alignment with family values and opposing expansion of LGBT rights in Lithuania. After Tomilinas voted in favor of same-sex partnerships in 2021,he was removed from all of his positions in the party. [12] He joined the Democrats Parliamentary Group,led by Saulius Skvernelis and formed from former members of LVŽS,in September 2021. [13] The group established the Union of Democrats "For Lithuania" in 2022.
The Homeland Union –Lithuanian Christian Democrats,also colloquially known as the Conservatives,is a centre-right political party in Lithuania. It has 18,000 members and 28 of 141 seats in the Seimas. Its current interim leader is RadvilėMorkūnaitė-Mikulėnienėfollowing the resignation of Gabrielius Landsbergis in 2024 after the party's loss in the election. It is a member of the European People's Party (EPP) and the International Democracy Union (IDU).
The Lithuanian Farmers and Greens Union is a green-conservative and agrarian political party in Lithuania led by Ramūnas Karbauskis. The party is considered one of the main representatives of the left wing of Lithuanian politics. Lithuanian journalist Virgis Valentinavičius described the party as "the mixture of the extreme left in economic matters and the extreme right in some social issues,all spiced up with an anti-establishment rhetoric of radical change".
Lithuania does not recognise same-sex marriages or civil unions. A bill to legalise civil unions and grant same-sex couples some legal rights and benefits is pending in the Seimas. Lithuania is the only Baltic state to not recognise same-sex couples in any form. Additionally,the Constitution of Lithuania explicitly prohibits the recognition of same-sex marriages.
The Lithuanian Green Party is a green-liberal political party in Lithuania. It was founded in 2011. The party's chairwoman is environmental activist Ieva Budraitė.

Saulius Skvernelis is a Lithuanian politician who served as prime minister of Lithuania between 2016 and 2020. He had previously served as police commissioner,and was Minister of the Interior from 2014 to 2016. Though he was an independent politician,he was backed by the Lithuanian Farmers and Greens Union and was a member of its parliamentary group until 2022,as a result of which he became the first head of government in European history primarily backed by a green party.
RadvilėMorkūnaitė-Mikulėnienė is a Lithuanian politician and the incumbent Deputy Speaker of the Seimas and acting chairwoman of Homeland Union since 28 October 2024. She has served as a Member of the Seimas since 2016,and has additionally served as Deputy Speaker of the Seimas,Minister of Education,Science and Sports and as First Vice Chairwoman of the Homeland Union since 2021.
Skvernelis Cabinet was the 17th cabinet of Lithuania since 1990. At the end of its term,it consisted of Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis,who served as the Head of Government,and 14 government ministers from the Lithuanian Farmers and Greens Union,Social Democratic Labour Party of Lithuania,and Electoral Action of Poles in Lithuania –Christian Families Alliance. In the beginning,the Social Democratic Party was a member of the coalition,while the Social Democratic Labour Party had not been formed yet and the Electoral Action of Poles was not a member of the coalition. The Order and Justice party joined the coalition in 2019 before dissolving itself.
Virginijus Sinkevičius is a Lithuanian politician who was serving as European Commissioner for the Environment,Oceans and Fisheries in the European Commission led by Ursula von der Leyen from 2019 to 2024. In the 2024 European elections he was elected and became a member of the European Parliament. He previously was a Member of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania and Minister of the Economy and Innovation of the Republic of Lithuania.
