Early life and family

Schroeder was raised in Glandorf, Ohio, a community in Putnam County known for its German Catholic heritage. His ancestry traces back to his great-great-great-grandfather, Nicholas Schroeder, who immigrated to the area in 1834 as part of the Glandorf Colony, a group of settlers led by Father Johann Wilhelm Horstmann. Nicholas acquired land in Greensburg Township, where he cleared the forest and constructed a log cabin to establish a homestead. This family lineage has been meticulously documented by relatives, including Evelyn Palte and Doris Eith, who compiled records highlighting the use of Low German in the household during the early 20th century, particularly around World War I. Career

Schroeder owns and operates Kersh Insurance Agency, located in Ottawa, Ohio. [1]

Political career

Schroeder serves as the chairman of the Putnam County Republican Party, a role in which he has been recognized for his leadership in regional political activities. [2] He is also the secretary of the Ohio Republican Party and represents the 1st Senate District on the Ohio Republican State Central Committee. [3] In addition, Schroeder is a member of the Ohio Ballot Board, appointed to the position where he has participated in decisions regarding proposed constitutional amendments. [4]

In January 2024, Schroeder was selected as a delegate representing Ohio at the 2024 Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where he supported former President Donald J. Trump. [5]

Schroeder has commented on various political issues in Ohio. In discussions about the 2026 U.S. Senate race, he highlighted the narrow margins in Congress and the need for intense campaigning, predicting extensive advertising efforts. Regarding redistricting, Schroeder stated that Ohio's political landscape is shifting toward Republican dominance, which he believes should be reflected in new congressional maps. [3] [6] He emphasized that recent voter rejections of proposed changes to the redistricting process affirm the current system's appropriateness. [6]

In 2025, as a member of the Ohio Ballot Board, Schroeder voted to divide a proposed equal rights amendment into two separate issues, a decision that required proponents to gather signatures for each part individually. [4] [7]

Schroeder has expressed support for prominent Republican figures. He endorsed Vivek Ramaswamy in the context of the Ohio gubernatorial race, noting Ramaswamy's strong grassroots backing. [8] Additionally, he organized an event featuring Vice President JD Vance, believing him to be "the obvious choice" for a 2028 Republican presidential candidate. [2]
