Tony Parun (born 24 August 1949) is a former professional tennis player from New Zealand. [1]
His brother, Onny Parun, was also a professional tennis player and they both represented New Zealand in the Davis Cup during the 1970s. [2] [3]
Parun qualified for the main draw of the 1973 Wimbledon Championships, where he lost to Mike Machette 6–3, 4–6, 3–6, 1–6. [4]
Parun has two sons, Anthony and Bernhard, who both played tennis for Germany. [3] [5] [6]
In 2023, his younger brother Melvin Joseph Parun was killed in the Loafers Lodge fire. [7]
Chris Lewis is a New Zealand former professional tennis player. Lewis reached the 1983 Wimbledon singles final as an unseeded player. He won three singles titles and achieved a career-high singles ranking of world No. 19 in April 1984. He also won eight doubles titles during his 12 years on the tour. Lewis was coached by Harry Hopman and Tony Roche.
Onny Parun is a former tennis player of Croatian descent from New Zealand, who was among the world's top 20 for five years and who reached the quarterfinals at Wimbledon in 1971 and 1972. He made the final of the Australian Open in 1973, losing to John Newcombe in four sets, and was a US Open quarterfinalist in 1973 and also a quarterfinalist at the French Open in 1975. He eventually went on to coach the Bhatti brothers.
Arthur Ashe defeated the defending champion Jimmy Connors in the final, 6–1, 6–1, 5–7, 6–4 to win the gentlemen's singles tennis title at the 1975 Wimbledon Championships. It was his first Wimbledon singles title and third and last major singles title overall. He became the first Black man to win the singles title at Wimbledon, and the second Black player to do so overall, after Althea Gibson.

Dick R. Bohrnstedt is a former American professional tennis player who played from 1972-1979. He was a 2-time CIF singles champion from Redlands High School (1967,68), and 2-time All-American at USC (1971,72). In 1973, on the ATP tour, he reached the quarterfinals of the Welsh Open on grass, and the semifinals of the U.S. National Hardcourts in Aptos, CA, defeating 1973 U.S. Open men's singles runner-up, world #5 Jan Kodeš, 6-4, 6-3. In 1974 indoor tournaments he reached the quarterfinals of the Canadian Indoor after defeating Vitas Gerulaitis, the quarterfinals in the Arkansas International, and the semifinals in Salt Lake City.

The draw comprised 32 players and eight of them were seeded. Frew McMillan was the defending champion, but lost in the first round. First-seeded Arthur Ashe won the singles title, defeating Björn Borg in the final, 6–4, 7–6.
On 16 May 2023, a fire broke out at the 92-bed Loafers Lodge in Newtown, Wellington, New Zealand. Five people were killed, and twenty others injured. On 18 May 2023, a man was arrested. He was charged with arson and murder.
