Minnesota Thunder was an American professional soccer team based in Minnesota, United States. Founded in 1990, the team played in the USL First Division (USL-1), the second tier of the American Soccer Pyramid, until 2009. The team played its home games at the National Sports Center in nearby Blaine, Minnesota for its final two seasons. The team's colors were navy blue, light blue, silver, and white.

Jimmy Mills was a Scottish-American soccer wing-half and coach. He gained his greatest fame as a coach, taking his teams to five league, three league cup titles and two McGuire Cup titles In 1956, he coached the US Olympic soccer team at the 1956 Summer Olympics. He is a member of the National Soccer Hall of Fame.
John Swallen is a retired American soccer player who played professionally with the Minnesota Thunder for twelve seasons. Swallen, a goalkeeper, was named to the Thunder Hall of Fame in 2002, following the conclusion of his Thunder career. Swallen was named the USL First Division MVP and goalkeeper of the year for the 1999 season.

He won a silver medal with Team USA at the 2005 Maccabiah Games in Israel.
