Torsten Schmidt (born 9 December 1974) is a male discus thrower from Germany. His personal best throw is 64.78 metres, achieved in August 2004 in Thum.
His career highlight came when he finished ninth at the 2004 Summer Olympics. He had previously competed at the 2002 European Championships without reaching the final.

Michael Jack Schmidt is an American former professional baseball third baseman who played his entire 18-season career in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Philadelphia Phillies. Schmidt was a 12-time All-Star and a three-time winner of the National League (NL) Most Valuable Player award (MVP), and he was known for his combination of power hitting and strong defense. As a hitter, he compiled 548 home runs and 1,595 runs batted in (RBIs), and led the NL in home runs eight times and in RBIs four times. As a fielder, Schmidt won the National League Gold Glove Award for third basemen ten times. Schmidt was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1995 and is widely considered to be the greatest third baseman in baseball history.

Torsten Gütschow is a German football manager and former player who played as a striker. He is most associated with Dynamo Dresden, with whom he had two successful spells, playing top level football in East Germany and after reunification. In between these he played for three other German clubs, and spent six months with Galatasaray of the Turkish Süper Lig. A strong and instinctive goalscorer, Gütschow was top scorer in each of the last three seasons of the DDR-Oberliga, and was the last East German Footballer of the Year. He won three international caps for East Germany, scoring two goals between 1984 and 1989. Since retiring he has taken up coaching, and has been manager of TuS Heeslingen.

Senior Colonel Torsten Andreas Schmidt was a Swedish Army officer. Schmidt began his military career in 1919, commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Wendes Artillery Regiment. Over the years, he climbed the ranks, attaining promotions such as lieutenant in 1923, captain in 1934, and major in 1937. Notably, he directed the Armed Forces Chemical Institute from 1937 to 1945 and served in various roles within the Defence Staff until 1959, reaching the rank of senior colonel. Beyond his military service, Schmidt contributed to Air Protection Investigation in 1936, was a member of the Atomic Committee from 1945 to 1959, and held several board positions, including the Defence Missile Board. His multifaceted career extended into teaching and insurance roles from 1960 to 1969. Schmidt was also involved in the Swedish Armed Forces' control of the Swedish defense research when it was set up before and during World War II, and when the Swedish nuclear research started.
