The Tour of the Battenkill was a single-day road cycling race held in the Battenkill valley, in Washington County, New York. [1] It was 62.2 miles long, includes many hills, dirt and gravel road sections and as of 2011 it has been held seven times. From 2010 to 2012, the race was rated as a 1.2 event on the UCI America Tour.

On his palmarès are three of the five monuments of cycling—five in total: the 1996 Tour of Flanders, the 1997 and 1998 Liège–Bastogne–Liège and the 2002 and 2003 Giro di Lombardia. He won the UCI Road World Cup in 1997 and 1998. From 10 October 1998 until 6 June 1999, Bartoli was number one on the UCI Road World Rankings.

Joseph Michael "Joe" Papp is a former professional American road racing cyclist and US National cycling team member, author, and convicted doper and drug distributor. A dual Irish–American citizen, Papp was born in Ohio and raised in Western Pennsylvania, where he attended high school and university. Early in his career, Papp was a member of the Pittsburgh Power, a professional team in the National Cycle League owned by Franco Harris. He also rode as a stagiare with Montgomery-Bell, but finished his career in 2006 riding for the Italian teams Partizan-Whistle and Team Bianchi-Cinghiale, after starting the year with Hong Kong–based Champion System.

A Gran Fondo is a type of long-distance road cycling ride originating in Italy in 1970, and roughly translates into English as "Big Ride". Italian Gran Fondos are officially defined and certified by the Italian Cycling Federation as a bicycle event at least 120 kilometres (75 mi) long, and are individually chip-timed races with prizes for the fastest riders in each category. The starts are done en masse, and the format allows for riders of every level to participate, much like a marathon, where most participants are competing against the clock instead of other participants. Traditionally a large meal is served to the participants at the end of the event, and roads are shut down.

Véronique Fortin is a Canadian racing cyclist originally from St Georges de Beauce, Quebec, Canada. Currently sponsored by Opus bike, she won the Canadian Road National Championship in 2011. She was a member of Team TIBCO in 2012 and finished 36th in the 2012 Giro della Toscana. She won the woman's 2012 Ontario Hell of the North race as well as the 2012 Tour of the Battenkill. In 2013, she joined the Italian road team Pasta Zara-Cogeas-Manhattan. She competed in the 2013 UCI women's road race in Florence. She won the women's 2014 Haute Route Alps as well as the women's 2015 Haute Route Dolomites Swiss Alps. She won the women's 2015 Mt Washington Auto Road Bicycle Hillclimb. She won the women's 2015 100 km Wilmington Whiteface MTB.
