Touro University Berlin was founded in 2003 as the first and only Jewish-American college in Germany. The college is part of the Touro University System network with branches in New York, Paris, Moscow, and Jerusalem, among other locations. While all the Touro Colleges have an American background, students and faculty at Touro University Berlin come from all over the world, hence, the language of instruction is English.

Touro University Berlin offers four-year undergraduate degrees in Business and Psychology and a Master of Business Administration. Students can obtain a German and a US degree at the same time if they are eligible. Graduate students can also study for the MA Holocaust Communication and Tolerance. [1] Touro University Berlin has been fully accredited by the de:Wissenschaftsrat in 2012, [2] and by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education and New York State Department of Education.

Touro University Berlin is the only college in Germany where it is possible to study a full MA program on the history of the Holocaust. [3]


The college is located in the historic Paul Lindemann villa, designed by modernist architect Bruno Paul, in the leafy suburb of Charlottenburg overlooking the Havel river. [4]

It was founded by Bernard Lander in 1971 and named for Isaac and Judah Touro. Its main campus in New York City is the largest private Jewish university in the US. Touro initially focused on higher education for the Jewish community, but it now serves a diverse population of over 19,000 students across 35 schools. There are many branches of Touro University, including Lander College for Men and Lander College for Women.

Berlin International University of Applied Sciences is a private, non-profit institution of higher education in Berlin, Germany. It was founded in 2014 as a Fachhochschule in its own right by the state of Berlin. It is registered as the 31st private university in Berlin under German law.

Stephan Lehnstaedt is a German historian of the Holocaust and professor at Touro University Berlin. Lehnstaedt received his doctor title in 2008 from Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München and in 2016 a habilitation from Technical University Chemnitz. Prior to joining Touro, he has lectured at Ludwig Maximilians University, Munich, the Humboldt University Berlin, and the London School of Economics.
