The Town Moor is a large common land located in the East End of Sunderland, otherwise known as Hendon.
First established as a public common in 1718 [1] alongside the creation of the Holy Trinity Church and the new parish of Sunderland, the space what is now the Town Moor was once significantly larger and served a variety of purposes throughout its history. This included industrial activities such as limestone, clay quarrying and rope-making, as well as sporting activities such as bull, badger and bear baiting. [2] The Sunderland Barracks were built on the edge of the Town Moor in the late 18th century. [3]
The land was also host to a former railway station which sat the terminus of the Durham–Sunderland line. [4]
Tyne and Wear is a metropolitan county in North East England, situated around the mouths of the rivers Tyne and Wear. It came into existence in 1974 after the passage of the Local Government Act 1972, which also created the five metropolitan boroughs of Newcastle upon Tyne, Gateshead, North Tyneside, South Tyneside and the City of Sunderland which constitute the county. Longbenton is a district of North Tyneside, England. It is largely occupied by an extensive estate originally built as municipal housing by Newcastle City Council in the 1950s and 1960s. It is served by the Tyne and Wear Metro stations Longbenton Metro station and Four Lane Ends Metro Station. Nearby places are Killingworth, Forest Hall, Four Lane Ends, West Moor, Heaton and South Gosforth, in Newcastle upon Tyne. The Longbenton and Killingworth Urban Area had a population of 34,878 in 2001. This figure increased to 37,070 in 2011.
Sunderland is a railway station on the Durham Coast Line, which runs between Newcastle and Middlesbrough via Hartlepool. Since 31 March 2002, the station has also been served by the Tyne and Wear Metro.

Farringdon is a suburb of Sunderland, Tyne and Wear, England. Originally a Monastic grange and manor estate for hundreds of years, Farringdon was rebuilt as a post-war council housing estate in the 1950s. It is approximately 3 mi (4.8 km) south of the city centre along the A690, close to Thorney Close, Silksworth, East Herrington, Gilley Law and Doxford Park. Electorally, the area comes under the St. Chad's ward of the City.

The Town Moor is an area of common land in Newcastle upon Tyne. It covers an area of around 1000 acres or 400ha, making it larger than Hyde Park and Hampstead Heath combined. It is also larger than New York City's Central Park. The Town Moor reaches Spital Tongues and the city centre to the south, Gosforth to the north and Jesmond to the east.
Kenton is a suburb and electoral ward in the north west of Newcastle upon Tyne, England. It borders the Town Moor and Gosforth. Kenton also has close road links to Newcastle Airport. The ward population at the 2011 Census was 11,605.
Cleadon is a suburban village in South Tyneside in the North East of England. Prior to the creation of Tyne and Wear in 1974 by the Local Government Act 1972, the village was part of the historic County Durham. In the 2011 UK Census the population of the South Tyneside ward of Cleadon and East Boldon was 8,427. Nearby population centres include East Boldon, Whitburn, and Jarrow. The village is located approximately 5 miles (8 km) from the city of Sunderland and 5 miles from the town South Shields. It is situated on the south west of Cleadon Hills, an example of a Magnesian Limestone grassland home to a number of regionally and nationally rare species.
Tunstall is a suburb of Sunderland, Tyne and Wear, England which is mostly a privately purchased estate. It is located to the west of Ryhope, and east of Silksworth. The area was built around a large hill, known as Tunstall Hill. Since 1966 pilgrims have erected crucifixes on the hill every Good Friday.
Sunderland Orphan Asylum was opened in 1861 following the Sunderland Orphan Asylum Act of 1852 and stands on the edge of Town Moor in Sunderland, Tyne and Wear, England.
Sunderland Barracks was a military installation in the old east end of Sunderland, built as part of the British response to the threat of the French Revolution.
Bishopwearmouth Rectory was a medieval clerical manor which once dominated the village of Bishopwearmouth, of which is now Sunderland, Tyne and Wear. Overseen by the Bishop of Durham, the rectory hosted many royal officials and papal officers, often appointed in absentee. Throughout the centuries this included notable figures such as Adam Marsh, Simon Langham and Robert of Geneva.
