History

The platform is used as a self study tool and as a teaching resource by educators and general audiences free of charge. [5] The content uses the European Computer Driving License (ECDL) syllabus. Trajnimi received the official certification by ECDL Foundation as the first online IT educational platform in Albanian, accessible for Albanian speaking countries and diaspora. [6] [7]

Prior to Trajnimi launch there was no digital ICT training material in Albanian and face-to-face training was not afforded by the general public. The e-learning platform Trajnimi ('trajnimi' means training in Albanian), started to be developed at the end of 2006 and went live in June 2007. The e-learning platform is based on Adobe Flash. [8]

After launch, the platform was deemed as a national treasure by Kosovo's prime minister, and the following year, it won the best practice award from the ECDL Foundation. The foundation cited the platform for adopting the ECDL "as a means to increase employability." [9]

National e-Learning education in Kosovo

In 2008, the IPKO Institute donated Trajnimi to Kosovo's Ministry of Education, Science and Technology with about 20,000 people registered at the time of transfer of ownership. [10] In the same year Kosovo's Ministry of Education, Science and Technology included Trajnimi as an extracurricular ICT activity in the public schools curricula where IT teachers would use the platform to teach ICT computing to students. [11]

Some universities in Kosovo used Trajnimi as part of their curriculum syllabus including:

Awards

In 2008 the platform received the "Best Practice Award" by ECDL Foundation, during its annual meeting in Vienna, Austria for the efforts to promote digital literacy and increase employability in Kosovo. [18] [19] [20]

Discontinuation of Adobe Flash

Trajnimi platform will be prematurely out of service after December 31, 2020, following the discontinuation of Adobe Flash. [21]

Technological literacy is the ability to use, manage, understand, and assess technology. Technological literacy is related to digital literacy in that when an individual is proficient in using computers and other digital devices to access the Internet, digital literacy gives them the ability to use the Internet to discover, review, evaluate, create, and use information via various digital platforms, such as web browsers, databases, online journals, magazines, newspapers, blogs, and social media sites.

In England, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Isle of Man, the Diploma in Digital Applications (DiDA) was an optional information and communication technology (ICT) course, usually studied by Key Stage 4 or equivalent school students. DiDA was introduced in 2005 as a creation of the Edexcel examination board. DiDA was notable for its time in that it consisted entirely of coursework, completed on-computer; all work relating to the DiDA course was created, stored, assessed and moderated digitally. In the late 2000s it was generally taught as a replacement for GCSE ICT, and the GNVQ which had been withdrawn in 2007. DiDA faced controversy in its lifetime, particularly after the Wolf report found that it was primarily being taught by schools because it was the equivalent of studying four GCSEs at once, which had a major impact on league table scores. From 2012 a revised DiDA and CiDA were taught by a smaller number of centres, with the original qualification removed from league table consideration in 2014. The revised version was ultimately discontinued in 2020. At the scheme's launch, 200,000 students were enrolled on the qualification; this had declined to 6,000 on the revised version in 2016 and to 1,400 students by the time of the final report in 2020.
