TAE Avia, formerly named TransAVIAexport Airlines, [1] is a Belarusian national cargo airline. It is based at Minsk International Airport in Belarus, with a hub at Sharjah International Airport, in the United Arab Emirates.
TransAVIAexport Airlines was established in December 1992 in Belarus. The airline operates worldwide cargo flights. In 2021, the airline changed its name to TAE Avia. [1]
On 2 December 2021, TransAVIAexport and two aircraft belonging to the airline were added to the Specially Designated Nationals and Blocked Persons List by the United States Department of the Treasury. [2] In 2022, the airline was additionally blacklisted by the United Kingdom, the European Union, Switzerland and Japan. [3]

The Ilyushin Il-76 is a multi-purpose, fixed-wing, four-engine turbofan strategic airlifter designed by the Soviet Union's Ilyushin design bureau as a commercial freighter in 1967, to replace the Antonov An-12. It was developed to deliver heavy machinery to remote and poorly served areas. Military versions of the Il-76 have been widely used in Europe, Asia and Africa, including use as an aerial refueling tanker and command center.

On 23 March 2007, a Belarusian Ilyushin Il-76 cargo aircraft operated by TransAVIAexport Airlines crashed in the outskirts of Mogadishu, Somalia, during the Battle of Mogadishu. The plane was carrying repair equipment and humanitarian aid. According to a spokesperson for the transport ministry of Belarus, the aircraft was shot down. However, the Somali government insisted that the crash was accidental. A crew of eleven on board the aircraft perished in the accident.

Sun Way Flight 4412 was an international scheduled cargo flight from Karachi, Pakistan, to Khartoum, Sudan. On 28 November 2010, the Ilyushin Il-76 operating the flight crashed while attempting to return to Karachi after one of the engines catastrophically failed shortly after take-off. Twelve people were killed in the crash: everyone on board the aircraft and four people on the ground. The engine failure was caused by metal fatigue resulting from operation of the engine beyond its design life.
Shar Ink,, was a Russian charter cargo airline based in Moscow. In 2009, the company announced that it would be co-operating with a new airline called I-Fly. The airline ceased all operations in 2019.
Rubystar Airways is a Belarusian cargo airline headquartered in Minsk and based at Minsk National Airport.
Rus Flight 9633 was a cargo flight operated on an IL-76TD aircraft of Rus Airlines from Chkalovsky Airport (Moscow) to Taiyuan Wusu Airport (Taiyuan) with intermediate landings at Alykel Airport (Norilsk) and Bratsk Airport (Bratsk). On July 14, 2001, the plane carrying out this flight crashed a few seconds after takeoff from Chkalovsky Airport. All 10 people on board were killed.
On 21 October 2024, a cargo Ilyushin Il-76 that had previously been operated by New Way Cargo Airlines was shot down over the Darfur region of western Sudan by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) during the Sudanese civil war. All five people aboard were killed. The ownership of the aircraft remains unclear. The aircraft is believed to have been operated by the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) on a mission to deliver equipment and medicine to the army-held city of Al-Fashir. Despite this, initial reporting stated that the aircraft involved was an Ilyushin Il-76 registered as EX-76011 with serial number 0013428831 operated by New Way Cargo Airlines on behalf of the United Arab Emirates supplying the RSF. However, the aircraft was reportedly exported to Sudan on 12 January 2024 where it was re-registered ST-JAN; the initial report that it was EX-76011 was on account of a safety card bearing this registration being found in the wreckage.
