Trans Studios Samarinda is a theme park located within Dadi Mulya Village on Samarinda Ulu, Samarinda, Borneo, Indonesia. Construction of the theme park and the hotel started in 2012. It is the first Trans Studios theme park to be built in Borneo. The plans for the park were unveiled to the public when Trans Studios Makassar signed a tourism agreement on 22 October 2009. East Kalimantan is a province of Indonesia. Its territory comprises the eastern portion of Borneo. It had a population of about 3.03 million at the 2010 Census and 3.42 million at the 2015 Census; the latest official estimate is 3,619,700. Its capital is Samarinda.

The city center is on one side and the other side is named Samarinda Seberang.
Pan Borneo Highway, also known as Trans-Borneo Highway or Trans-Kalimantan Highway, is a road network on Borneo Island connecting two Malaysian states, Sabah and Sarawak, with Brunei and Kalimantan region in Indonesia. The highway is numbered AH150 in the Asian Highway Network and as Federal Route 1 in Sarawak. In Sabah, the route numbers given are 1, 13 and 22. The highway is a joint project between both governments which started as soon as the formation of Malaysia in 1963 which comprised Malaya, Sabah, Sarawak and Singapore. The lack of a road network system in Sarawak was the main factor of the construction.
The Lawa River is a river in East Kalimantan province, Borneo island, Indonesia, about 1100 km northeast of the capital Jakarta. It is a branch of the Mahakam River in eastern Borneo, which is situated entirely within the Kutai Barat, and flows into the Mahakam approximately 200 km upstream from Samarinda. The indigenous communities of Lotaq and Mejaun are situated near its source.
Persatuan Sepakbola Indonesia Balikpapan, commonly known as Persiba Balikpapan, is an Indonesian football club based in Balikpapan, East Kalimantan. Nicknamed Beruang Madu, taken from the city mascot of Balikpapan. The club was founded in 1950 and The club play their home games at the Batakan Stadium, which has a capacity of 40,000. In media, the tautology is often used and to distinguish the club with another club with the same acronym, Persiba Bantul.

East of Samarinda is a collection of stories by author Carl Jacobi. It was released in 1989 by Bowling Green State University Popular Press. Although Jacobi is known mostly for his horror and science fiction stories, this book collects adventure stories set in Borneo and the South Seas. The collection was edited by Carl Jacobi and R. Dixon Smith. Jacobi also provides a preface and Smith wrote the introduction.
Kutai is a historical region in East Kalimantan, Indonesia on the island of Borneo and is also the name of the native ethnic of the region, numbering around 300,000 who have their own language of the same name and their own rich history. Today the name is preserved in the names of three regencies in East Kalimantan, the Kutai Kartanegara Regency, the West Kutai Regency and the East Kutai Regency. The major river of the region is the Mahakam River.

Trans Studio is the world's third-largest indoor theme park, located in Makassar, South Sulawesi, Indonesia. The 20,000-square-metre (220,000 sq ft), 20-metre (66 ft) high building houses the indoor theme park. Trans Studio is built on 12.7 ha with investment up to IDR 1 trillion. The indoor theme park was inaugurated by the Vice President of Indonesia, Jusuf Kalla, exactly on September 9, 2009 (09-09-09). Trans Studio itself is a part of The Trans Studio World project, which will include Trans Walk and Rodeo Drive, Trans Studio, Trans hotels, and offices of Mega Bank. Under the management of PT. Trans Kalla, the Mega Development Project will provide an integrated development, comprising not only an indoor theme park, but also shopping mall, supermarket, hotel, office area, recreational beach area, and residential area. The whole project was scheduled to be completed sometime in 2010.
Balikpapan-Samarinda Toll Road or Balsam Toll Road is an expressway which is constructed to connect Balikpapan with Samarinda of East Kalimantan, as well as proposed new capital city of Indonesia. This is the first expressway in Kalimantan. The toll road is 99.3 kilometers (325,787 ft) long. Samboja-Samarinda section of the toll road is inaugurated by President Joko Widodo on 17 December, 2019.The toll road is expected to be totally completed by April, 2020.

The Battle of Samarinda was a mopping up operation in the series of the Japanese offensive to capture the Dutch East Indies. After capturing the oil refineries at Balikpapan, Japanese forces advanced north to capture the strategic oil drilling site in and around Samarinda and the oil pipelines that linked both cities.
