Transbordadora Austral Broom S.A is a Chilean water transportation company.
It has been navigating across the Strait of Magellan, and the fjords and channels of Patagonia since 1968, connecting Tierra del Fuego, Navarino Island and Cape Horn.
The company also owns and operates the Melinka ferry which services the Porvenir area.
Services between Patagonia and Tierra del Fuego have operated since 1968, via the eastern inlet of the Strait of Magellan. This is the narrowest part of the Strait between the islands and Primera Angostura.
At present, there are two ferries connecting Punta Delgada on the mainland and Bahía Azul in Tierra del Fuego. The Punta Delgada terminal is located 170 km north of Punta Arenas.
Since 1984, Transbordadora Austral Broom has had a daily crossing between the Tres Puentes terminal located 5 km north of Punta Arenas city center, and the Bahía Chilota terminal located 5 km from Porvenir. Porvenir is located in the west of Tierra del Fuego, and to the southeast of Punta Arenas. It is 20 miles from the continent and separated by the Strait of Magellan.
This service is provided by the landing craft Melinka which can transport 230 passengers and has a deck for approximately 23 vehicles. It also has coffee service for passengers.
The company also owns the Pionero ferry.
The company operates a weekly Roll-on/roll-off ferry from Punta Arenas to Puerto Williams on Navarino Island, a 30-hour journey. The service is operated by the Yaghan, built in 2011 by Asenav in Valdivia. [1]
Tierra del Fuego is an archipelago off the southernmost tip of the South American mainland, across the Strait of Magellan. The archipelago consists of the main island, Isla Grande de Tierra del Fuego, with an area of 48,100 km2 (18,572 sq mi), and a group of many islands, including Cape Horn and Diego Ramírez Islands. Tierra del Fuego is divided between Chile and Argentina, with the latter controlling the eastern half of the main island and the former the western half plus the islands south of Beagle Channel. The southernmost extent of the archipelago is at about latitude 55 S.

Puerto Williams is the main settlement, port and naval base on Navarino Island in Chile. It faces the Beagle Channel. It is capital of the Chilean Antarctic Province, one of four provinces in the Magellan and Chilean Antarctica Region, and administers the communes of Chilean Antarctic Territory and Cabo de Hornos. It has a population of 2,874, including both naval personnel and civilians. Puerto Williams claims the title of world's southernmost city. The settlement was founded in 1953, and was first named Puerto Luisa. The town was later named for John Williams Wilson, a British man who founded Fuerte Bulnes, the first settlement in the Strait of Magellan since 1587. It has served primarily as a naval base for Chile. The Chilean Navy runs the Guardiamarina Zañartu Airport and hospital, as well as nearby meteorological stations. Since the late 20th century, the number of navy personnel has decreased in Puerto Williams and the civilian population has increased. In that period, tourism and support of scientific research have contributed to an increase in economic activity.
Porvenir is the capital of both the homonymous commune and the Chilean Province of Tierra del Fuego of the Magallanes y la Antártica Chilena Region. It is one of Chile's southernmost towns, and has 4,734 inhabitants, including several thousand soldiers. It is the largest settlement in the Chilean half of the island of Tierra del Fuego.

Navarino Island is a Chilean island located between Isla Grande de Tierra del Fuego, to the north, and Cape Horn, to the south. The island forms part of the Commune of Cabo de Hornos, the southernmost commune in Chile and in the world, belonging to Antártica Chilena Province in the XII Region of Magallanes and Chilean Antarctica. Its population is concentrated primarily in the communal capital, Puerto Williams, and in small settlements like Puerto Navarino, Río Guanaco and Puerto Toro. The highest point of the island is Pico Navarino at 1,195 m (3,921 ft). The island is a popular destination for fly-fishers.
Ruta Nacional 3 is an Argentine highway, stretching from the eastern side of the country in Buenos Aires, crossing the provinces of Buenos Aires, Río Negro, Chubut Province, Santa Cruz and Tierra del Fuego. The Boundary Treaty of 1881 between Argentina and Chile was signed on the 23 July 1881 in Buenos Aires by Bernardo de Irigoyen, on the part of Argentina, and Francisco de Borja Echeverría, on the part of Chile, with the aim of establishing a precise and exact borderline between the two countries based on the uti possidetis juris principle. Despite dividing largely unexplored lands, the treaty laid the groundwork for nearly all of Chile's and Argentina's current 5600 km shared border.

Mateo Martinić Beroš is a Chilean historian, politician and lawyer. He has primarily dealt with the history of Magallanes Region. He entered the University of Chile in 1953 studying briefly pedagogy before moving on to study law and then continued his law studies in the Catholic University of Chile. He finally became a lawyer in 1983. From 1964 to 1970 he served as intendant of Magallanes Region.
