Travis Fieldyen Mills (born April 14, 1987) is a retired United States Army soldier who became a quadruple amputee while serving in Afghanistan. He speaks across the country, motivating others to live by his motto: "Never give up. Never quit." He has also established a foundation to build a retreat for other special-needs veterans injured in combat and their families.
Mills grew up in Vassar, Michigan, United States. After graduating from high school, he joined the United States Army and was assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division, where he rose to the rank of staff sergeant. During his three tours of duty in Afghanistan, Mills was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star medals.
On April 10, 2012, Mills was critically injured by an improvised explosive device (IED) on his third tour in Afghanistan, losing portions of both legs and both arms. [1] [2] He is one of only five quadruple amputees from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan to survive such extensive injuries. [1]
Mills has written a New York Times bestselling [3] memoir titled Tough As They Come. A documentary film, Travis: A Soldier's Story, [4] is now available online. He is the founder and President of the Travis Mills Foundation. The foundation raised $2.75 million in donations to rehabilitate Elizabeth Arden's Maine Chance Lodge, turning it into a fully accessible, free retreat for post 9/11 recalibrated veterans and their families. [1] In the summer of 2017, the Veterans Retreat hosted over 56 combat injured veterans. Travis also was featured in a 2022 documentary on HBO Max, titled "Hi I'm Travis Mills". In November of 2023, Travis published his second book titled Bounce Back, 12 Warrior Principles to Reclaim & Recalibrate Your Life. Travis is also a public speaker, traveling around the country speaking on behalf of his business, Travis Mills Group.
Mills currently resides in Maine with his wife Kelsey, his daughter Chloe, and his son Dax.

He was severely injured by an IED explosion during a reporting trip to Iraq that January, and he recovered over an extended period before returning to air.
Paul (P.J.) Rieckhoff is an American writer, social entrepreneur, activist and veteran of the United States Army and the Iraq War. He is the president of Righteous Media Inc and the host of the Independent Americans podcast. Prior to that, he was the founder, CEO and executive director of Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA), a non-partisan non-profit founded in 2004. He served as an Army first lieutenant and infantry rifle platoon leader in Iraq from 2003 through 2004. Rieckhoff was released from the Army National Guard in 2007. He is also the Karl Lowenstein Distinguished Visiting Lecturer in the Political Science Department at Amherst College, where he designed and taught a class on the 20th anniversary of 9/11, titled "Understanding 9/11".
Frederick Melvin Franks Jr. is a retired general of the United States Army. He commanded the Gulf War coalition VII Corps in the highly successful "Left Hook" maneuver against fourteen Iraqi divisions, a number of which were Iraqi Republican Guard, defeating or forcing the retreat of each with fewer than 100 American casualties lost to enemy action.

The Decorations of Honour of the Bundeswehr are a series of military decorations of the Bundeswehr, the armed forces of the Federal Republic of Germany. Restrepo is a 2010 American documentary film about the War in Afghanistan directed by British photojournalist Tim Hetherington and American journalist Sebastian Junger. It explores the year that Junger and Hetherington spent, on assignment for Vanity Fair, in Afghanistan's Korengal Valley, embedded with the Second Platoon, B Company, 2nd Battalion, 503rd Infantry Regiment, 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team of the U.S. Army. The Second Platoon is depicted defending the outpost (OP) named after a platoon medic who was killed earlier in the campaign, PFC Juan Sebastián Restrepo, who was a Colombian-born naturalized U.S. citizen. The directors stated that the film is not a war advocacy documentary, they simply "wanted to capture the reality of the soldiers."

Simon Mailloux is a serving officer in the Canadian Forces. He was severely injured on 16 November 2007 in an IED incident in Afghanistan. As a result, his left leg was amputated.
Leroy Arthur Petry is a retired United States Army soldier. He received the U.S. military's highest decoration, the Medal of Honor, for his actions in Afghanistan in 2008 during Operation Enduring Freedom.
The Kandahar massacre, also called the Panjwai massacre, was a mass murder that occurred in the early hours of 11 March 2012, when United States Army Staff Sergeant Robert Bales murdered 16 Afghan civilians and wounded six others in the Panjwayi District of Kandahar Province, Afghanistan. Nine of his victims were children, and 11 of the dead were from the same family. Some of the corpses were partially burned. Bales was taken into custody later that morning when he told authorities, "I did it".
