Rex Edwin Lee was an American lawyer and academic who served as the 37th solicitor general of the United States from 1981 to 1985. He was responsible for bringing the solicitor general's office to the center of U.S. legal policymaking. During his tenure,Lee argued 59 cases before the U.S. Supreme Court.
Jeffrey Roy Holland is an American educator and religious leader. He served as the ninth president of Brigham Young University (BYU) and is the acting president of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. As a member of the Quorum of the Twelve,Holland is accepted by the church as a prophet,seer,and revelator. Currently,he is the third most senior apostle in the church.

The Edmunds Act,also known as the Edmunds Anti-Polygamy Act of 1882,is a United States federal statute,signed into law on March 23,1882 by President Chester A. Arthur,declaring polygamy a felony in federal territories,punishable by "a fine of not more than five hundred dollars and by imprisonment for a term of not more than five years". The act is named for U.S. Senator George F. Edmunds of Vermont. The Edmunds Act also prohibited "bigamous" or "unlawful cohabitation",thus removing the need to prove that actual marriages had occurred. The act not only reinforced the 1862 Morrill Anti-Bigamy Act but also made the offense of unlawful cohabitation much easier to prove than polygamy misdemeanor and made it illegal for polygamists or cohabitants to vote,hold public office,or serve on juries in federal territories.
On March 10,2008,The New York Times reported that Eliot Spitzer,Governor of New York,had patronized a prostitution ring run by an escort agency known as Emperors Club VIP. During the course of an investigation into the escort agency,the federal government became aware of Spitzer's involvement with prostitutes due to a wiretap. Following the public disclosure of his actions,Spitzer resigned as Governor effective March 17,2008.

Kay Mortensen was an American retired professor of mechanical engineering at Brigham Young University who was murdered at his home in 2009. After family members were initially charged with the crime,the son of a friend of Mortensen was charged and convicted of the murder.

A member of the Republican Party,he was elected to the Oklahoma Senate in 2010,defeating several challengers in primary elections,re-elected in 2014 and served his term until 2017. During his tenure,he established a Republican consulting firm. Shortey was the state campaign chair for Donald Trump in the 2016 presidential election.

In 2019,a scandal arose over a criminal conspiracy to influence undergraduate admissions decisions at several top American universities. The investigation into the conspiracy was code named Operation Varsity Blues. The investigation and related charges were made public on March 12,2019,by United States federal prosecutors. At least 53 people have been charged as part of the conspiracy,a number of whom pled guilty or agreed to plead guilty. Thirty-three parents of college applicants were accused of paying more than $25 million between 2011 and 2018 to William Rick Singer,organizer of the scheme,who used part of the money to fraudulently inflate entrance exam test scores and bribe college officials. Of the 32 parents named in a Federal Bureau of Investigation affidavit filed in U.S. District Court in Boston,more than half had apparently paid bribes to have their children enrolled at the University of Southern California (USC).

The 2022 BYU Cougars baseball team represented Brigham Young University during the 2022 NCAA Division I baseball season. Mike Littlewood began the season as acting head coach of the Cougars for a tenth consecutive season. However,on April 11 Littlewood announced he was stepping away from BYU Baseball for personal reasons that were undisclosed. Assistant coach Trent Pratt was named acting head coaching for the remainder of the season.

Since 1970,the LDS Church has had at least one official publication or speech from a high-ranking leader referencing LGBT topics every year,and a greater number of LGBT Mormon and former Mormon individuals have received media coverage.
