The Lima and Callao Metro is a rapid transit system that serves the cities of Lima and Callao, the two of which make up the Lima metropolitan area. The existing metro, Line 1, currently links the district of Villa El Salvador in the south of Lima with San Juan de Lurigancho in the northeast of the city. In addition, there are five planned lines in the network.
The Rímac River is located in western Peru and is the most important source of potable water for the Lima and Callao Metropolitan Area. It belongs to the Pacific Slope, into which it flows after bathing the cities of Lima and Callao, together with the Chillón River, to the north, and the Lurín River, to the south. It is 204 km long and has a basin of 3,312 km², of which 2,237.2 km² is a humid basin. The basin has a total of 191 lagoons, of which only 89 have been studied. The river begins in the highlands of the Huarochirí Province in the Lima Region and its mouth is located in Callao, near Jorge Chávez International Airport.
The Trans-Andean railways provide rail transport over the Andes. Several are either planned, built, defunct, or waiting to be restored. They are listed here in order from north to south.
Rail transport in Peru has a varied history. Peruvian rail transport has never formed a true network, primarily comprising separate lines running inland from the coast and built according to freight need rather than passenger need.
The Argentine railway network consisted of a 47,000 km (29,204 mi) network at the end of the Second World War and was, in its time, one of the most extensive and prosperous in the world. However, with the increase in highway construction, there followed a sharp decline in railway profitability, leading to the break-up in 1993 of Ferrocarriles Argentinos (FA), the state railroad corporation. During the period following privatisation, private and provincial railway companies were created and resurrected some of the major passenger routes that FA once operated.
Cercanías Murcia/Alicante is a commuter rail service (cercanías) in the provinces of Alicante and Murcia. The line connects Alicante and Murcia with San Vicente del Raspeig, Elche, Orihuela, Totana, Lorca, and Águilas. It runs through 200 km of railways with a total of 26 stations.
Graña y Montero is a company based in Latin America. It originated as a real estate and construction company, now the oldest and largest in Peru. Its many business interests include the construction of buildings and infrastructure, the energy and mining industries, and sanitation and highway services. In November 2020 changed its name to AENZA.
Miss Peru 2014, the 61st Miss Peru pageant was held on April 12, 2014, in Parque de la Amistad in Surco, Lima, Peru.
El Insurgente, formerly called the Toluca–Mexico City commuter rail project is a 57.7 km (35.9 mi) commuter rail line between the State of Mexico and Mexico City that is partially operational. Also known as Interurban Train Mexico City–Toluca, the passenger railway line will connect the cities of Toluca and Mexico City. The project was announced by President Enrique Peña Nieto on 1 December 2012, and construction began in 2014.
Following the dethronements of Anyella Grados and Tiffany Yoko Chong; the president of the Miss Peru Organization, Jessica Newton took the decision to organize a special edition of the Miss Peru 2019 pageant. The new format consisted of ten former contestants that had previous pageant experience whether at international or national level to compete for the national crown and to represent the country in other selected pageants.
Podemos por el Progreso del Perú, more often known by its shortened name Podemos Perú, is a conservative political party in Peru. Founded in 2018 by economist and former congressman José Luna Gálvez. For the 2021 general election, Daniel Urresti was nominated by the party for the Presidency. In the election, Urresti placed 9th with 5.6% of the vote. While in the congressional election, the party won five seats, mainly from Lima, Callao and Ica.
The Costa del Sol railway is a proposed railway line in Andalucia, Spain, to link Málaga with Marbella and Estepona on the Costa del Sol.
The Cádiz Bay tram-train is a tram-train/light rail system in the Spanish city of Cádiz and the surrounding area. The 24 km (14.9 mi) system opened on October 26, 2022.
The Tren de la Costa is a planned railway in the Valencian Community in Spain.
César Hinostroza is a Peruvian judge, lawyer, and fugitive who was a judge in the Peruvian Supreme Court from 2 January 2017 until his escape on July 11, 2018, in the midst of the political crisis in Peru. He is known for being involved in the CNM Audios scandal, a corruption scandal which led to his escape. When he escaped on 17 October, he was arrested following a warrant by Interpol, but was provisionally released on April 11, 2019.
Mass protests in Peru against inflation and President Pedro Castillo's government began in March 2022. The protests occurred amid rising fertilizer and fuel prices caused by Russia's invasion of Ukraine and Western sanctions imposed on Russia. Some of the larger protests were organized by Geovani Rafael Diez Villegas, the leader of the Union of Multimodal Transport Guilds of Peru (UGTRANM) who had previously collaborated in late 2021 with business executives and right-wing politicians, opposing the Castillo government and whose power is recognized as rivaling the government's own Ministry of Transport and Communications. Diez Villegas demanded the removal of passenger restrictions on buses, pardons for transportation workers who were charged with crimes, and negotiations for forgiving debt owed by transportation businessmen to the government. He later organized a general strike aimed at paralysing transportation in Peru beginning on 4 April 2022 that resulted in protests, product shortages, transportation stoppages and rioting.
The Urban Transport Authority for Lima and Callao is a specialised technical organisation of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications. Its main function is to integrate and articulate urban public transportation in the Lima metropolitan area.
