Trevor John Riley AO QC (born 29 January 1948) was the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the Northern Territory in Australia. He was appointed a judge of the Supreme Court on 1 February 1999, Chief Justice on 27 September 2010 and retired on 4 July 2016. [1]

Justice Riley was born in Bruce Rock in Western Australia and was educated at the Merredin Senior High School and the University of Western Australia.

After graduating with a Bachelor of Laws, he was admitted to practice in 1970. He relocated to Darwin in 1974. He worked with Ian Barker in the firm Withnall & Barker until 1974 when Cyclone Tracy destroyed Darwin. After the cyclone he joined the firm Ward Keller.

Justice Riley joined the Northern Territory Bar in 1985 and was appointed as a Queen's Counsel in 1988. From 1988 - 1991 he was counsel in the Royal Commission into Aboriginal Deaths in Custody.

On 22 July 2010 it was announced that Justice Riley would become the Northern Territory's sixth Chief Justice after the retirement of Brian Ross Martin. [2] Justice Riley retired in 2016. [1]

Dean Mildren, is a former Judge of the Supreme Court of the Northern Territory. He was appointed to the Court on 27 June 1991, and retired February 2013. He is sworn in as an Acting Judge of the Court, so from time to time still adjudicates on cases in the Northern Territory.

Sally Gordon Thomas is a former Judge of the Supreme Court of the Northern Territory, serving from 1992 to 2009. She was appointed to the Court on 10 August 1992 and was the first woman to be appointed a Judge of the Court. She was sworn in as the first female Administrator of the Northern Territory in October 2011. One of her first engagements in the role was to welcome Barack Obama, the President of the United States, to Darwin during his visit in November 2011.

Brian Frank Martin was the fourth Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the Northern Territory. He was appointed to that position on 26 February 1993 when the former Chief Justice Austin Asche took up appointment as Administrator of the Northern Territory. Chief Justice Martin was appointed as a Judge of the Court in 1987 and, following his retirement, still assists the Court as an Acting Judge having been appointed to that position in 2004.

Kevin Fredrick O'Leary QC was the second Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the Northern Territory. He was appointed to that position on 12 September 1985 after James Muirhead had acted in the position following the relocation to Perth of the Territory's first Chief Justice William Forster earlier that year.

James Henry Muirhead AC KStJ QC was an Administrator of the Northern Territory and a Judge of the Supreme Court of the Northern Territory.

Eric Michael Heenan is a former justice of the Supreme Court of Western Australia, the highest ranking court in the Australian state of Western Australia.

Peter David McClellan, was a judge of the New South Wales Court of Appeal, the highest court in the State of New South Wales, Australia, which forms part of the Australian court hierarchy. He was appointed to the position in February 2013 and retired in February 2018. McClellan was the Chief Royal Commissioner of the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse from January 2013 to December 2017. He was previously the Chief Judge in Common Law in the Supreme Court, a position to which he was appointed in 2005.

John Edward Reeves is an Australian politician, lawyer and judge. He was a Labor member of the Australian House of Representatives from 1983 to 1984, a prominent barrister in Darwin afterwards, the author of the controversial 1999 Reeves Report on Aboriginal land rights in Australia, and has been a Judge of the Federal Court of Australia since November 2007.

Michael Laurence Barker is an Australian judge. He has been a Judge of the Federal Court of Australia since February 2009. He previously served as a Judge of the Supreme Court of Western Australia and as President of the Western Australian State Administrative Tribunal.

Ian McClelland Barker is an Australian barrister and Queen's Counsel. He was the first Solicitor-General of the Northern Territory and is a former president of the NSW Bar Association. Barker retired as a barrister in 2017.

Judith Clair Kelly is a Judge of the Supreme Court of the Northern Territory (Australia). She was appointed to the Court on 12 August 2009. Justice Kelly was only the second female appointment to the Court since it was established in 1911.

Sir John Angus Nimmo was an Australian judge. From 1972 to 1974 he was Chief Justice of Fiji.

Geoffrey Michael Eames is an Australian jurist, who was a judge of the Supreme Court of Victoria. He served on the Trials court from 1992 to 2002, and then on the Court of Appeal until 2007. He subsequently served as an Acting Judge of the Supreme Court of the Northern Territory, and as Chief Justice of Nauru.
