Tria Mera are a heavy metal band from Brisbane, Australia. Officially formed in 2010, the group consists of guitarists Juz Cook and Ian Konrad, bassist Mike Radeck, and drummer Matt McRae. The band name is Greek for "Three Day", though referred to commonly as "Third Day", as it appears in the movie White Noise 2: The White Light. Tria Mera's musical style is heavy metal, but has been compared to the styles of modern European metal due to the melodicism found throughout their music.
Since its formation, Tria Mera have released 2 EPs, played several local festivals (including Australia's major heavy metal festival Soundwave Festival headlined by Iron Maiden), and won a QMusic Award for their song "A Burning Horizon".
History
Formation and early days (2006–2009)

The formation of Tria Mera goes back to 2006, where guitarist Juz Cook and drummer Matt McRae started jamming together in Cairns, Australia. After many months of playing together, they had a full lineup and setlist, mostly metal covers, ready to hit the local live scene under the name Deadrise. They played 3 shows and were featured on Channel 9 Local News before Juz was offered to join Echoed Silence, an already established band.
While Echoed Silence was Juz's new full-time band, he and Matt continued to jam and write on the side, later pulling together the metal cover band they started for a few more shows. Eventually it became evident that to make it anywhere in the industry they would need to relocate to a bigger city. Matt moved to Brisbane in 2008, and Juz left Echoed Silence and soon followed in early 2009. [citation needed]
There were many months of rehearsing new material before they found any new bandmates. Scott Moss, formerly of Brisbane metal band Minus Life, became the band's first frontman. Shortly followed by Mike Radeck on bass, and Ian Konrad on guitar. The lineup was finalised in April, 2010, officially named Tria Mera, the name that the project was given on Myspace by Juz in 2008.
Six months of rehearsals followed before the band started tracking their debut EP in September with Ean Redman. The self-titled EP featured four songs; A Burning Horizon, Demonic Shadows, Blind By Reality and The Realm Beneath Us.
First live shows and achievements (2010–2011)

Before hitting the live scene, Tria Mera played a private house party to celebrate Scott and Ian's birthdays. The band's first public show was played on 26 November 2010, supporting the Australian band Lord. The band had pulled the majority of the crowd using the show as a chance to launch their debut EP and break into the local scene.
Performing at Soundwave opened up doors for Tria Mera, allowing them the opportunity to draw bigger crowds to local shows and build their reputation as a live band breaking out of the scene.
In June 2011, original vocalist Scott Moss announced he was leaving Tria Mera due to ever-growing family and work commitments. The next day, the band began advertising the vacant frontman position and later organised one final farewell show, which was held in August.
The success of the EP continued almost a year after its release when the band were nominated, and then won, a Queensland Music Award for their song "A Burning Horizon". The award was presented by Costa Zouliou, a former Triple J radio announcer. This helped to keep momentum while the band continued searching for a new frontman. [citation needed]

Anthrax is an American heavy metal band from New York City, formed in 1981 by rhythm guitarist Scott Ian and bassist Dan Lilker. The group is considered one of the leaders of the thrash metal scene from the 1980s and is part of the "Big Four" of the genre, along with Metallica, Megadeth and Slayer. They were also one of the first thrash metal bands to emerge from the East Coast. The band has released 11 studio albums, several other albums, and 26 singles, including collaborating on a single with American hip hop group Public Enemy. Virgin Black is an Australian gothic doom band. The band was signed to The End Records and Germany's Massacre Records, through which it released 4 albums and 1 EP. A fifth album, originally planned for release in 2006, was released independently in 2018. Formed in 1995 in Adelaide, they have achieved international acclaim during their career, receiving praise from such magazines as Orkus, Metal Hammer, Legacy and The Village Voice.
Bullet for My Valentine, often abbreviated as BFMV, are a Welsh heavy metal band from Bridgend, Wales, formed in 1998. The band is currently composed of Matthew Tuck, Michael Paget, Jason Bowld (drums) and Jamie Mathias. Former members include Michael Thomas, Jason James and Nick Crandle; the latter were on bass. They were formed under the name Jeff Killed John and started their music career by covering songs by Metallica and Nirvana. Jeff Killed John recorded six songs which were not released; two of these tracks were reworked later in their career as Bullet for My Valentine. A change of style from that of Jeff Killed John led the band to change their name. In 2002, the band secured a five-album deal with Sony BMG. The band has stated that their music is influenced by classic metal acts such as Metallica, Iron Maiden and Slayer. The band is part of the Cardiff music scene.
Trivium is an American heavy metal band from Orlando, Florida, formed in 1999. The band comprises vocalist and guitarist Matt Heafy, guitarist Corey Beaulieu, bassist Paolo Gregoletto, and drummer Alex Bent.

The group consists of lead vocalist Oliver Sykes, guitarist Lee Malia, bassist Matt Kean, drummer Matt Nicholls and keyboardist Jordan Fish. Soundwave was an annual music festival held in major cities around Australia, run and promoted by Soundwave Touring. The festival originated in Perth, Western Australia, and began travelling to the other Australian capital cities in 2007. It featured a number of international and Australian music acts from various genres, including rock, metal and punk. The festival has been headlined by Deftones, the Offspring, Incubus, Alice in Chains, Bloodhound Gang, Nine Inch Nails, Faith No More, Jimmy Eat World, Jane's Addiction, Soundgarden, Iron Maiden, Queens of the Stone Age, the Smashing Pumpkins, System of a Down, Slipknot, Green Day, Avenged Sevenfold, Linkin Park, Blink-182 and Metallica.
Stealing O'Neal was an Australian pop rock band from Melbourne, Victoria, formed in 2004. The band comprises vocalist Chris Scott, guitarist and backing vocalist Jack Tosi, bassist Tom Fleming, guitarist Tim O'Keefe and drummer Ryan D'Sylva. They have made a name for themselves with live performances alongside well-known Australian acts Something with Numbers, The Hot Lies and The Getaway Plan, as well as international acts New Found Glory, Boys Night Out, All Time Low and The Audition as well as playing as the Melbourne local act at Soundwave 2009. In September 2011, the band announced a series of finale shows which will close their career as a band.
Dead Letter Circus are an Australian alternative rock band from Brisbane, Queensland. Their 2010 debut album This Is the Warning debuted at No. 2 on the Australian album charts and spawned a number of singles that were played heavily on radio, and was later certified Gold and voted by listeners into Triple J's Hottest 100 Albums of All Time, at number 86. The band's third studio album, Aesthesis, was released on 14 August 2015.
The Amity Affliction is an Australian metalcore band from Gympie, Queensland, formed in 2003. The band's current line-up consists of Ahren Stringer, Joel Birch, Dan Brown (guitar) and Joe Longobardi (drums). The Amity Affliction has released seven studio albums including Severed Ties (2008), Youngbloods (2010), Chasing Ghosts (2012), Let the Ocean Take Me (2014), This Could Be Heartbreak (2016) and Misery (2018), the latter four debuting at number one on the ARIA charts. The Eighth Plague Tour was a concert tour by American Heavy metal band Machine Head. Supports in the first leg of Europe was come from the bands Bring Me the Horizon, Devildriver and Darkest Hour. Robb Flynn made a statement saying that: "This will no doubt be the heaviest show you're going to see this year. A lot of the greatest shows of our last touring cycle were in Europe and the UK, so the prospect of this lineup combined with these crowds has us extremely stoked to get out there and tear it up! New material, great venues, killer fans... we absolutely cannot wait!"
Crossfaith is a Japanese metalcore band from Osaka that was formed in 2006. Since its formation, the band has retained the same line-up with no member changes, which currently consists of vocalist Kenta Koie, guitarist Kazuki Takemura, bassist Hiroki Ikegawa, drummer Tatsuya Amano and keyboardist Terufumi Tamano. They are characterized by performing a style of metalcore with dubstep and other forms of electronic music influences, and for their intense live performances.
Thy Art Is Murder is an Australian deathcore band from Blacktown, Sydney, that formed in 2006. The band consists of vocalist Chris "CJ" McMahon, guitarists Sean Delander and Andy Marsh, drummer Jesse Beahler and bassist Kevin Butler. Thy Art Is Murder has released five studio albums since formation.
DZ Deathrays are an Australian dance-punk trio from Brisbane, Queensland. Waax are an Australian rock band from Brisbane, formed in 2012. The band consists of guitarists James Gatling and Ewan Birtwell, drummer Tom Bloomfield, bassist Tom Griffin, and vocalist Marie 'Maz' DeVita. Waax have released two independent EPs: Holy Sick (2015) and Wild & Weak (2017). Their debut album, Big Grief, was released in 2019. They also won the Triple J Unearthed BIGSOUND competition in 2014. Their single "Labrador" won the No. 1 spot on the independent Brisbane radio station 4ZZZ's Top 100 in 2018. In 2019, the single was voted into Triple J's Hottest 100 of 2018 at No. 88.
The Brave are an Australian metalcore band from Brisbane, formed in 2013. The band consists of guitarists Kurt Thomson and Denham Lee, drummer Brent Thomson, bassist Daniel Neucom, and vocalist Nathan Toussaint. They have released two studio albums: Epoch (2016), and Aura (2019).
