Trim (born Javan Daniel Winston St. Prix) is an English grime MC from East London and a former member of Roll Deep. [2] Trim has an eclectic subject matter, beat selection and delivery. [3] [4]
Trim joined Roll Deep in 2003 and immediately began recording music with the collective. Trim was featured on Roll Deep's Creeper Vol. 1 and Creeper Vol. 2 before being featured on the highly successful debut album In At The Deep End , contributing to the hit singles "When I'm Ere" and "Heat Up". Trim then began working on Roll Deep's second album Rules and Regulations in 2006 but left the group by the time it was released in 2007, after a disagreement with fellow MC Flowdan. In 2011 Trim spoke to Huw Stephens about how leaving Roll Deep helped him find his own musical direction and stand on his own as an artist. [5]
After leaving Roll Deep Trim distanced himself from the group and has since started his own collective known as "The Circle". He has also independently released ten mixtapes, working at a prolific rate. When asked about his mixtape series by The Guardian's David Stelfox, he said:
Trim had a prolific 2011 releasing four independent mixtapes as well as collaborating with Skream on a track named "Tweedle Dee Tweedle Dum" which was released on Tempa Recordings, recording "I Am" which was released as a single on Butterz recordings and an EP called Stereotype with Mark Pritchard which was released on Planet Mu. [7] 2012 saw the release of The Nangest EP with longtime collaborator Roachee and the long anticipated "Confidence Boost" single, produced by James Blake - a track first heard as an a cappella preview on Soulfood Vol. 2 in 2007. The final version had existed as a dubplate since 2010 and was finally released as a 12" single in September 2012 on R&S Records. [8] [9]
In late 2012 Trim signed a contract with Rinse Recordings to work on his first album, tentatively titled "Crisis". However, during 2013 Trim had an acrimonious split from his label after growing frustrated with a lack of releases and limited creative control. [10] In early 2014 he premiered new music on James Blake's BBC Radio 1 show and confirmed his intentions to release his album independently on an imprint called Secluded Area Of Music. The album will have no choruses and no features, its release will be preceded by two further mixtape releases and a second collaborative EP with Roachee. [11] Trim's first single "Vending Machine" was released in March 2014 and this was followed by the mixtapes "Fresh Trim" and "NFA" in May. [11] In August 2015, Trim previewed the title track from "Crisis" on his SoundCloud. He also featured on Commodo's album "How What Time", on the song "Itchin", released on 8 April 2016. [12]
In June 2016, James Blake's label 1-800 DINOSAUR released a long rumoured Trim EP, a double A side called "RPG/Man Like Me". [13] Later that month it was confirmed that Trim would release a full album on the label on 29 July 2016 entitled "1-800 DINOSAUR Presents Trim". [14]
Trim gained early notoriety for his willingness to clash rivals on pirate radio stations[ citation needed ] and for his track "The Lowdown", a 6-minute tirade aimed at many fellow MCs which was released as a B side on his first single in 2004. Trim's numerous musical disputes have included disagreements with many Grime MCs including Stormin, Fumin, Bruza, Big H, President T, Flowdan and Wiley. [15]

Dubstep is a genre of electronic dance music that originated in South London in the early 2000s. The style emerged as a UK garage offshoot that blended 2-step rhythms and sparse dub production, as well as incorporating elements of broken beat, grime, and drum and bass. In the United Kingdom, the origins of the genre can be traced back to the growth of the Jamaican sound system party scene in the early 1980s.

Alongside his younger brother Jme, he briefly joined Roll Deep before they became founding members of Boy Better Know in 2005. With Boy Better Know, Skepta clashed with fellow MC Devilman for the video release Lord of the Mics 2, in what is remembered as one of the biggest clashes in grime history.
Jamie Adenuga, known professionally as Jme, is a British grime MC, songwriter, record producer and DJ who was born in Hackney, and raised in Tottenham. He is the co-founder of the crew and label Boy Better Know. He also serves as a sole owner and director of an associated company, Boy Better Know Limited, which he incorporated in 2008. He was previously part of the grime collective Meridian Crew and later Roll Deep alongside his older brother, Skepta.

Mount Kimbie is an English electronic music group. Originally consisting of the duo of Dominic Maker and Kai Campos, Mount Kimbie was formed in 2008. James Blake Litherland is an English singer, songwriter, and record producer. He first gained recognition following the release of three EPs—The Bells Sketch, CMYK and Klavierwerke—in 2010. He signed with A&M Records to release his self-titled debut album (2011) the following year, which was met with critical praise and peaked within the top ten of the UK Albums Chart. He then departed the label in favour of Republic Records, through which he released his second album, Overgrown (2013) to further critical and commercial success; it likewise peaked within the chart's top ten and moderately entered the US Billboard 200. James Blake is the debut studio album by English musician James Blake. Zeds Dead is a Canadian electronic music duo from Toronto, Canada, consisting of Dylan Mamid, also known as DC, and Zachary Rapp-Rovan, also known as Hooks. Post-dubstep is an umbrella term applied to a range of musical styles that have been influenced by the sparse, syncopated rhythms and heavy sub-bass of the UK dubstep scene. The breadth of styles associated with the term post-dubstep precluded it from being a specific musical genre in the early 2010s. Such music often references earlier dubstep productions as well as UK garage, 2-step and other forms of underground electronic dance music. Artists producing music that has been described as post-dubstep have also incorporated elements of ambient music and early 2000s R&B. The latter in particular is heavily sampled by two artists described as post-dubstep, Mount Kimbie and James Blake. The tempo of music typically characterised as post-dubstep is approximately 130 beats per minute.

Kelela Mizanekristos is an American singer. She made her debut in the music industry with the release of her 2013 mixtape Cut 4 Me. In 2015, she released Hallucinogen, an EP which deals with the beginning, middle, and end of a relationship in reverse chronological order. Her debut studio album, Take Me Apart, was released in 2017 to critical acclaim. After a nearly 5-year hiatus, Kelela released her second album, Raven, in February of 2023.
Tyrone Jermaine "TJ" Carter, better known by the stage name Lil Silva, is an English record producer, singer, songwriter and DJ, based in Bedford. He has produced and sung on his own singles and EPs that have been described as funky house, UK funky, instrumental grime and "dubstep-inflected pop". He also takes a more traditional producer role on other musicians' work—was principal producer on Banks's album Goddess and contributed production to Adele's album 25. He has collaborated with SBTRKT and on Damon Albarn's Africa Express project.
