The Trofeo San Nicola is a yearly football friendly tournament played by three Italian football teams. The trophy is played in an unusual format where each team plays a traditional half of football against the other two teams, each half of which comprises a separate match. [1]

1990 FIFA World Cup 1990 edition of the FIFA World Cup

The 1990 FIFA World Cup was the 14th FIFA World Cup. It was held from 8 June to 8 July 1990 in Italy, the second country to host the event twice. Teams representing 116 national football associations entered and qualification began in April 1988. 22 teams qualified from this process, along with host nation Italy and defending champions Argentina.

UEFA Euro 1980 1980 edition of the UEFA Euro

The 1980 UEFA European Football Championship final tournament was held in Italy. This was the sixth European Football Championship, which is held every four years and endorsed by UEFA. It was the first edition to feature eight teams, taking place between 11 and 22 June 1980. West Germany won the final 2–1 for their second title. This was the last European Championship with a third place play-off.

1990–91 European Cup football tournament

The 1990–91 European Cup was the 36th season of the European Cup, a tournament for men's football clubs in nations affiliated to the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA). It was won for the first time by Red Star Belgrade on penalties in the final against Marseille; both were first-time finalists. This was only the second time that an Eastern European side had won the competition, after Steaua București of Romania in 1986. It was also the last tournament to be solely knock-out based, with a group stage added for the next season. Red Star won the tournament as the only Yugoslavian club shortly before the breakup of Yugoslavia. This was also the last season to feature a team from East Germany, since the East and its West counterpart reunified in October 1990.

2000–01 Serie A sports season

The 2000–01 Serie A was the 99th season of top-tier Italian football, the 69th in a round-robin tournament. It was contested by 18 teams, for the 13th consecutive season since 1988–89.

The TIM Trophy is a football pre-season tournament that was firstly contested in August 2001. It is not sanctioned or recognized by official football bodies since the gameplay rules do not correspond to IFAB/FIFA laws of football. For the first twelve editions, the competing teams were Juventus, Internazionale and Milan. For both the 2013 and 2014 editions, Internazionale opted not to participate and was replaced by Sassuolo. For 2015, Juventus declined to participate while Internazionale returned. In the 2016 edition, Internazionale opted out again, and was replaced by Celta Vigo, becoming the first non-Italian team to compete in the tournament, and leaving Milan as the only original team participating. To date, no tournament has been held since 2016. Overall, Internazionale has eight titles, Milan five, and Juventus, Sassuolo and Celta Vigo one each.

1991 European Cup Final association football match

The 1991 European Cup Final was a football match held at the Stadio San Nicola in Bari, Italy, on 29 May 1991, that saw Red Star Belgrade of Yugoslavia defeat Marseille of France in a penalty shoot-out. After normal time and extra time could not separate the two sides, the match was to be decided on penalty kicks. Manuel Amoros's miss for the French side proved crucial, as Red Star held their nerve to win their first European Cup.

2008–09 Coppa Italia football tournament season

The 2008–09 Coppa Italia was the 62nd season of the tournament. The competition started on 9 August 2008 and ended on 13 May 2009. The radically different format used in the 2007–08 Coppa was abandoned, with the new format more closely resembling earlier editions of the tournament.

It began on 23 June with the round of 16 matches, and ended on 8 July with the final match of the tournament held in Rome, in which West Germany beat the defending champions Argentina 1–0 to claim their third World Cup.

The 2010–11 Coppa Italia, also known as TIM Cup for sponsorship reasons, was the 64th season of the competition. As in the previous year, 78 clubs took part in the tournament. Internazionale were the cup holders.

The 2015 Colonia Cup was a summer football friendly tournament organized by German club 1. FC Köln and hosted at the RheinEnergieStadion in Cologne, from 1 to 2 August 2015. Besides the hosts, three other European teams took part: Porto (Portugal), Valencia (Spain), and Stoke City (England).

The 2017 UEFA Regions' Cup was the 10th edition of the UEFA Regions' Cup, a football competition for amateur teams in Europe organized by UEFA.

The 2018–19 Campionato Sammarinese di Calcio was the 34th season since its establishment. It is the highest level in San Marino, in which the country's top 15 amateur football clubs played. The season began on 21 September 2018 and concluded with the play-off final on 25 May 2019. La Fiorita were the defending champions from the previous season.

The women's tournament of football at the 2019 Summer Universiade was held in July in Naples, Italy.
