Tuisa Tulimasealii Tasi Patea is a Samoan politician. He is a member of the Human Rights Protection Party.
Tuisa is a lawyer. [1] He was first elected to the Legislative Assembly of Samoa in the 2011 election and appointed Associate Minister of Police and Prisons. [2] He lost his seat in 2016. He subsequently returned to work as a lawyer. [1] In 2018 he was censured by a District Court judge for giving poor advice to a client. [3]
He was re-elected in the newly created Sagaga No. 4 seat in the 2021 election. [1] On 29 June 2021 he resigned as part of the settlement of an election petition. [4] [5] On 12 July 2021 the Supreme Court of Samoa refused permission for the electoral petitions to be withdrawn in order to hear allegations of bribery and treating against Tuisa and FAST candidate Tagaloatele Poloa. [6] The resignation became effective on 28 July. [7] He subsequently contested the resulting by-election, [8] but was unsuccessful. [9]
FiamēNaomi Mataʻafa is a Samoan politician and High Chiefess (matai) who has served as the seventh Prime Minister of Samoa and leader of the Faʻatuatua i le Atua Samoa ua Tasi (FAST) party since 2021. A constitutional crisis began in Samoa on 22 May 2021 when O le Ao o le Malo Tuimalealiifano Va'aletoa Sualauvi II issued a proclamation purporting to prevent the Legislative Assembly from meeting in the wake of the general election in April 2021. Court rulings had upheld the election results,giving a parliamentary majority to the Faʻatuatua i le Atua Samoa ua Tasi (FAST) party,led by FiamēNaomi Mataʻafa. On 24 May 2021,a makeshift ceremony was held outside of Parliament to swear in Mata'afa as prime minister. On 23 July the Court of Appeal declared that the ceremony was binding and that FAST had been the government since that date.
