The Tunbridge Wells Open [1] was a combined men's and women's tennis tournament founded in 1908 as the Tunbridge Wells Open Lawn Tennis Tournament. [2] It was played at the Tunbridge Wells Lawn Tennis Club, Tunbridge Wells, Kent, England. The tournament ran until 1981 when it was discontinued as part of the ILTF Circuit.
In 1892 Tunbridge Wells Lawn Tennis Club was founded, [3] but did not at this time have a permanent venue of its own. In 1899 the club was formally incorporated. [4] In August 1908 it established an open tennis event called the Tunbridge Wells Open Lawn Tennis Tournament, [5] [6] The first edition of the men's tournament had a draw of 32 players. [7] The tournament ran annually except for 1915 to 1919 when it was suspended because of World War I and again from 1940 to 1945 due to World War II. The event resumed after the second world war and was staged until 1981 when it was discontinued as part of the worldwide ILTF Circuit.
Former notable winners of the men's singles event included; George Alan Thomas, Bill Sidwell, Choy Wai-Chuen, Constantin Tănăsescu, Jiro Sato, and Vernon Kirby. Previous winners of the women's singles tournament included; Agnes Morton, Dorothy Holman, Ermyntrude Harvey, Jadwiga Jędrzejowska, Ruia Morrison, Virginia Wade, and Dianne Evers.
In 1898 William Nevill, 1st Marquess of Abergavenny was invited to open the new Nevill Ground sports venue. [8] It then consisted of a cricket pitch, athletic track, football ground, six tennis courts, and some croquet pitches. [9] In 1899 a new club was created for tennis and croquet. [10] By 1906 the whole area had been taken over for tennis and croquet. [11] The club initially had grass courts, then in 1931 it constructed four hard courts (clay) were laid where the croquet lawn had been, these were red shale courts. [12] Today the club maintains 21 tennis courts that are made up of natural grass courts, artificial clay clays, and hard tarmac courts. [13]

The Sussex Championships or Sussex County Championships was a men's and women's grass court tennis tournament that were first staged in 1889. By 1972 it was known as the Sussex Tennis Open Championships. The championships were first held in Brighton, East Sussex, England then moved to West Worthing, West Sussex, England and ran only until 1980.
The Exmouth Open originally called the Exmouth Lawn Tennis Club Tournament or simply Exmouth Tournament was a men's and women's grass court tennis tournament founded in 1880. From 1890 the event was known as the Exmouth Open Tennis Tournament. It was hosted by the Exmouth Archery, Croquet and Lawn Tennis Club, Exmouth, Devon, Great Britain until 1927. It was then hosted by the newly founded Exmouth Lawn Tennis Club until it was abolished as a senior tour event in 1975.

The County Dublin Championships also known as the County Dublin Open Tennis Championships is a combined men's and women's grass court tennis tournament founded in 1882 as the County Dublin Tournament in Lucan, Dublin for one edition only. In 1887 the tournament was revived at Lansdowne Lawn Tennis Club until 1894 only. In 1908 it was revived for the second time at the Carrickmines Croquet and Lawn Tennis Club, Carrickmines, Republic of Ireland where it is still played today.
