Turf is a five-issue comic book limited series, written by Jonathan Ross, [1] illustrated by Tommy Lee Edwards [2] and published by American company Image Comics. [3] It was later serialised in CLiNT , before being collected.

Plot summary

The narrative is set in 1920s Prohibition-era New York and features period typical gangsters alongside vampires and aliens. Ross himself, describes the comic as "An intelligent popcorn movie. lots of action, lots of setting, lots of cool ideas, but with an emotional heart to it". [4]

Reception

The first 20,000 copies of issue 1 sold out on pre-orders alone. In interview, Ross has said that he intends the mini-series to run for five issues, eventually being released in a hardback collection and potentially a film adaptation, to be made by Matthew Vaughn. [1]

Alex Ross American comic book artist

Nelson Alexander Ross is an American comic book writer/artist known primarily for his painted interiors, covers, and design work. He first became known with the 1994 miniseries Marvels, on which he collaborated with writer Kurt Busiek for Marvel Comics. He has since done a variety of projects for both Marvel and DC Comics, such as the 1996 miniseries Kingdom Come, which Ross co-wrote. Since then he has done covers and character designs for Busiek's series Astro City, and various projects for Dynamite Entertainment. His feature film work includes concept and narrative art for Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2, and DVD packaging art for the M. Night Shyamalan film Unbreakable. Star Wars comics have been produced by various comic book publishers since the debut of the 1977 film Star Wars. Marvel Comics launched an eponymous series in 1977 which began with a six-issue comic adaptation of the film and ran for 107 issues, included an adaptation of The Empire Strikes Back. Marvel also released an adaptation of Return of the Jedi and spin-offs based on Droids and Ewoks. A self-titled comic strip ran in American newspapers between 1979 and 1984.
