"Twisting Words" is a song by Australian singer-songwriter Miiesha, released independently on 27 February 2020 as the third single from her debut studio album, Nyaaringu (2020).

Contents

According to Young, the song discusses themes of words being twisted to mean something different. She describes the song as her favourite to perform live.

"Twisting Words" received multiple accolades, for Indigenous Song of the Year, Remote Song of the Year and Soul / Funk / R&B Song of the Year at the 2021 Queensland Music Awards, and a nomination for Most Performed R&B / Soul Work at the 2021 APRA Awards.

Background and release

In an interview with Music Feeds discussing her album, Miiesha described the song as her "favourite song to perform live", saying:

"This song is about the way words and the truth can be twisted to mean something different, and how we choose to react to that, do we stand up for the truth or do we stay quiet." [1]

Casey Barnes is an Australian country rock singer-songwriter from the Gold Coast, Queensland who is best known as a contestant on the seventh season of Australian Idol in 2009. Barnes has played alongside Mariah Carey, Lady Antebellum and Bryan Adams. Casey Barnes started his singing career in Tasmania before relocating to Queensland.

At the ARIA Music Awards of 2015, James won Best Pop Release for "Do You Remember".

Ngaire Laun Joseph, known by her stage name Ngaiire, is a Papua New Guinea-born Australian-based R&B and future soul singer-songwriter. Her musical career commenced in 2003 with an enrollment in a bachelor of Jazz Studies at the Central Queensland University (CQU). Nyaaringu is the debut studio album by Australian singer and songwriter Miiesha, released digitally on 29 May 2020. Following its physical release in August 2020, the album peaked at number 28 on the ARIA charts.

Miiesha is an Australian singer-songwriter from the Aboriginal community of Woorabinda, Queensland. She was the recipient of New Talent of the Year at the 2020 National Indigenous Music Awards.

Robbie Miller is an Australian singer. In 2013, Miller won Triple J Unearthed National Indigenous Winner at the National Indigenous Music Awards 2013 with his song "Don't Go Walking Away" and an APRA Award in 2017 for "The Pain". Miller released his debut studio album in February 2021.
