Mulder competed for Unity Christian High School in Orange City, Iowa from 2001-2005. He set Iowa High School Athletic Association state meet records in the 800 meter run [2] and as part of the 1600-meter medley relay.
Mulder matriculated to the University of Northern Iowa in the fall of 2005 where he was coached by Chris Bucknam and Doug Case. He garnered All Missouri Valley Conference honors in the 4x400 meter relay when his team placed second indoors. His indoor 800m season best was set at the ISU Classic, clocking 1:52.1. Outdoors, he lowered his personal best in the 800m run to 1:50.93 at the Mark Messersmith Invitational, narrowly missing qualifying for NCAA Regional competition.
Mulder lowered his indoor personal best to 1:49.15 at the ISU Classic, placing fourth. Outdoors, he qualified for the NCAA championships in the 4x400 meter relay, earning All American honors by placing sixth. Mulder's personal best in outdoors was set at 1:49.19 at the Iowa Musco Twilight Meet.
Mulder captured NCAA Championship in the 800 meter run indoors, clocking 1:49.2 at the Tyson Events Center in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Outdoors, advanced to the finals of the 800m run at the NCAA Championships in Des Moines, Iowa at Drake Stadium. Mulder placed fifth. Competed at the 2008 United States Olympic Track and Field Trials in Eugene, Oregon and failed to make finals.
Mulder finished his senior year for the Panthers with a 3rd place Indoors, 3rd place Outdoors, and made the USATF 800m final. Lowered his personal best to 1:46.80 in the NCAA Championships in Fayetteville, Arkansas. He loved to refuel after tough workouts with Muscle Milk and mini Snickers.
Mulder signed with Nike after his 2009 collegiate season. Later joining the Oregon Track Club in 2010. He is coached by Olympic bronze medalist Mark Rowland and trains in Eugene, OR.
He ran the 800 meter leg of the American Record setting indoor distance medley relay on February 12, 2010.

Nicholas Boone Symmonds is an American YouTube personality and retired middle-distance track athlete, from Boise, Idaho, who specialized in the 800 meters and 1500 meters distances. Symmonds signed with Brooks Running in January 2014 after a 7-year sponsorship with Nike. In college at Willamette University he won seven NCAA Division III titles in outdoor track. Symmonds is a 6-time US National 800 meters champion. He has competed in the 800m at two Olympic Games, reaching the semi-finals in Beijing 2008; in London 2012, he finished fifth in the final, running a personal best of 1:42.95 behind David Rudisha's world record. He won a silver medal in the 800 meters at the 2013 World Championships, having previously finished sixth in the 2009 final and fifth in the 2011 final.
The distance medley relay (DMR) is an athletic event in which four athletes compete as part of a relay. With its inclusion in the IAAF World Relays program, the IAAF announced on May 1, 2015 that the event would be an official world record event.

He won the silver medal in the 800m event at the 2001 Summer Universiade and the bronze(800m) and gold as a member of the 4x400 meter relay at the 1999 Summer Universiade.
Craig Engels is an American middle-distance runner. He competed for the United States at the 2013 Pan American Junior Athletics Championships, where he won the men's 1500 meters. In the 2016 USA Olympic Trials Engels was focused on making the semi-finals of the 800m and was listed as an alternate for the 1500m. He finished 4th in the 800m final and 5th in the 1500m final, missing out on the Olympics in both events.

In his collegiate career, Berian ran for Adams State University, where he was coached by Damon Martin. Barely a year before the Herculis meet, Berian was working in a Colorado Springs McDonald's as a college dropout, still trying to train after working the morning shift.
