Tzvi Kushelevsky (born 3 March 1936) is an Israeli Orthodox rabbi and Talmudic scholar. He is the founder and the rosh yeshivah of Heichal HaTorah BeZion, a yeshiva in Jerusalem, Israel.
Tzvi Kushelevsky was born on 3 March 1936 (ט' אדר תרפ"ו) to Eliyahu Kushelevsky, who was the Rabbi of the city of Be'er Sheva, then part of Mandatory Palestine. While still a child, his family moved to the USA.
Kushelevsky studied in the Radin Yeshiva in New York, founded by Rabbi Mendel Zaks; Gateshead Talmudical College in England; Hebron Yeshiva; and the Harry Fischel Institute for Talmudic Research.
His parents returned to Israel in 1953.
As a rabbi, Kushelevsky served for a period as a rosh kollel in Manchester. In 1971, he returned to Israel to serve as a rosh kollel in Be'er Sheva, the city of his birth, where he intended to found a yeshiva. [1] He served for a period as rosh yeshiva of Yeshivas Itri, which he left with some of his students, moving to Yeshiva Torah Ore.
In the 1980s, Kushelevsky established his own yeshiva, Heichal HaTorah BeZion. [2] Initially located on Yellin St. in Jerusalem, the yeshiva subsequently moved to the former Pressburg Yeshiva building in Givat Shaul, Jerusalem. Around 2000, the yeshiva again relocated to a new, purpose-built building in Har Nof, Jerusalem. The yeshiva, which is also widely known as "Reb Tzvi's", became for many decades a popular choice for young men from the US, UK and other English-speaking countries.
Rabbi Kushelevsky married his first cousin Sara Leah, the daughter of his uncle Rabbi Leib Gurwicz, the rosh yeshiva of Gateshead Talmudical College. He was thus both a brother-in-law and cousin to Rabbi Avrohom Gurwicz, head of the Gateshead Talmudical College yeshiva in Gateshead.
Sara Leah Kushelevsky died aged 77 in March 2015. [1] : n.pag. Rabbi Tzvi and Sara Leah Kushelevsky did not have children.
Rabbi Kushelevsky married his second wife Rachel Danieli on 27 July 2018 (ט"ו באב תשע"ח). [3] She had two children from a previous marriage. Rachel Kushelevsky gave birth to Rabbi Kushelevsky's first child, Eliyahu, a boy, on 10 March 2024 (ראש חודש, ל' אדר א' תשפ"ד) in Jerusalem. [3] She was aged 56 at the time of the baby's birth. Rabbi Kushelevsky was aged 88 years at the baby's birth.
Hebron Yeshiva, also known as Yeshivas Hevron, or Knesses Yisroel, is a yeshiva. It originated in 1924 when the roshei yeshiva (deans) and 150 students of the Slabodka Yeshiva, known colloquially as the "mother of yeshivas", relocated to Hebron.

Ner Israel Rabbinical College, also known as NIRC and Ner Yisroel, is a Haredi yeshiva in Pikesville, Maryland. It was founded in 1933 by Rabbi Yaakov Yitzchok Ruderman, a disciple of Rabbi Nosson Tzvi Finkel, dean of the Slabodka yeshiva in Lithuania. Rabbi Aharon Feldman, a disciple of Rabbi Ruderman and a member of the Moetzes Gedolei HaTorah of America, became its head in 2001.
Aryeh Ze'ev (Leib) Gurwicz was an influential Orthodox rabbi and Talmudic scholar. He was the son-in-law of Rabbi Elyah Lopian and best known as Rosh Yeshiva of the Gateshead Yeshiva in Gateshead, England, where he taught for over 30 years.

Michel Yehuda Lefkowitz was an Israeli Haredi Torah leader and rosh yeshiva in Bnei Brak for over 70 years. He was a maggid shiur at Yeshivas Tiferes Tzion from 1940 to 2011 and rosh yeshiva of Yeshivas Ponovezh L’Tzeirim from 1954 to 2009, raising thousands of students. He was a member of the Moetzes Gedolei HaTorah of Degel HaTorah, a member of Mifal HaShas, and nasi (president) of the Acheinu kiruv organization, and played a leading role in the fight for Torah-true education in yeshivas and Talmud Torahs in Israel. In addition to his own Torah works, he published the teachings of his rebbi, Rabbi Shlomo Heiman, in the two-volume Chiddushei Shlomo.
Rav Nosson Tzvi Finkel was an American-born Haredi Litvish rabbi and rosh yeshiva (dean) of the Mir Yeshiva in Jerusalem, Israel. During his tenure from 1990 until his death in 2011, the Mir Yeshiva grew into the largest yeshiva in Israel with nearly 6,000 undergraduate students and over 1,600 avreichim. According to one estimate, he taught 25,000 students over his lifetime. He continued to work during the last 28 years of his life, when he had Parkinson's disease, experiencing involuntary spasms and slurred speech. He raised an estimated US$500 million for the Mir during his tenure as rosh yeshiva. He was a member of the Moetzes Gedolei HaTorah of Degel HaTorah. He was known for his Torah erudition and his warmth and concern for his students.

Gateshead Talmudical College, popularly known as Gateshead Yeshiva, is located in the Bensham area of Gateshead in North East England. It is the largest yeshiva in Europe and considered to be one of the most prestigious advanced yeshivas in the Orthodox world. The student body currently numbers approx. 350. Although students are mainly British, there are European, American, Canadians as well as some from South America, Australia and South Africa.
Avrohom Gurwicz is an English-born Orthodox rabbi and Talmudic scholar. Since 1982 he has been the rosh yeshivah of Gateshead Talmudical College, a yeshiva in Gateshead, England, where he has been giving the largest shiur in Europe with approximately 400 students attending, for approximately half a century.
Ben Zion Abba Shaul was one of the leading Sephardic rabbis, Torah scholars and halakhic arbiters of his day, and the rosh yeshiva of Porat Yosef Yeshiva in Jerusalem for the last 15 years of his life. He was responsible for a religious revival among Sephardic Jews with his founding of Ma'ayan HaChinuch HaTorani, a network of Torah schools for Sephardic children in Israel, and was widely known for his ability to give blessings that were fulfilled.
Shmuel Ehrenfeld, known as the Mattersdorfer Rav, was a pre-eminent Orthodox Jewish rabbi in pre-war Austria and a respected Torah leader and community builder in post-war America. Eliyahu Boruch Finkel was an influential maggid shiur (lecturer) at the Mir yeshiva in Jerusalem.
Yeshiva Ohr Elchonon is a Lithuanian-style Orthodox yeshiva in Jerusalem. The yeshiva was initially established in 1953 in Los Angeles, California, by Rabbi Simcha Wasserman, who named it in memory of his father, Rabbi Elchonon Wasserman, rosh yeshiva in Baranowicz, who was murdered in the Holocaust in Lithuania. The yeshiva operated in Los Angeles from 1953 to 1977, when it was sold to the Chabad movement. After Wasserman immigrated to Jerusalem, he established another Yeshiva Ohr Elchonon in the Ezrat Torah neighborhood in 1979. A second branch was opened in the Romema neighborhood in 1993. Ohr Elchonon enrolls hundreds of boys in yeshiva ketana and yeshiva gedolah, and close to 100 married men in its kollel. Additional yeshiva ketana branches have been established in the Israeli cities of Modiin Illit, Rishon Letzion, and Tiberias.
