UAB (formerly known as United Amara Bank) is a private commercial bank in Myanmar.

History

uab was one of 4 private banks to commence operations in August 2010, the first new financial institutions in the country since the establishment of Innwa Bank in 1997. [3] [4] uab bank has a network of over 79 branches in 53 townships across Myanmar. Christopher Loh is the CEO of the bank.

The bank is majority owned by Ne Aung, the son of Aung Thaung, who has been blacklisted by the United States Treasury on 31 October 2014 [5] for his membership in the country's ruling military junta, the State Peace and Development Council and his attempts to undermine Burma's economic and political reforms. [6] [7] [8]

In 2016, uab bank and Asian Development Bank signed a trade finance agreement to support businesses in Myanmar. [9] In 2017, uab bank launched Visa-branded credit cards in Myanmar to cater to the demand for electronic payments in the country. [10]

uab bank and Global Star Co. Ltd. partnered with Huawei to distribute solar energy products in Myanmar. [11]

The Htoo Group of Companies is a Burmese holding company, with headquarters at 5 Pyay Road, Hlaing Township, Yangon, Myanmar. HGC is the parent company of Air Bagan, a privately held Burmese airline company. The company has several subsidiaries. Htoo Wood Products Company Ltd. is engaged in logging and export of timber. Htoo Trading Company, is engaged in construction, property development, agriculture, transportation, shipping, mining, hotels and tourism operations. Htoo Trading Company and Asia World Company were the first two construction companies granted contracts to build the new national capital in Naypyidaw. Htoo Trading Company is Burma's top private exporter and fifth largest overall, with gross revenues of $65.1 million.

CB Bank is one of Myanmar's oldest and largest commercial banks. It became the first bank in Myanmar to issue ATM cards and credit cards. The bank, led by U Khin Mg Aye (Chairman) and U Kyaw Lynn (CEO) has over 200 branches across the country.

Steven Law also known as Htun Myint Naing and Lo Ping Zhong is a Burmese businessman. He is best known for being the managing director of Asia World, the country's largest conglomerate, and as son of Lo Hsing Han, one of the country's most notable drug traffickers. Law also owns the Magway FC.

The International Group of Entrepreneurs is one of Myanmar's 5 largest conglomerates, possessing 13 subsidiaries that employ 4,000 people. IGE also possesses Myanmar's second largest timber trading company. It also exports Burmese rice. IGE Group of Companies was established in 1994 in Burma, and registered in Singapore in 2001. The company is also active in the country's oil and gas sector. In 2007, IGE earned over US$75 million in revenues. The company was previously subjected to economic sanctions by the United States government, because of its ties to the State Peace and Development Council, the former military junta.

The Kanbawza Group of Companies is a set of Myanmar-based companies across industries such as construction, garments, insurance, banking, oil, communications, cement, aviation and mining that bear the KBZ brand.

Thein Tun was a Burmese businessman and founder of Myanmar Golden Star. He was best known for introducing Pepsi into the Burmese market through Myanmar Golden Star in 1991. He benefited from close connections with Tun Kyi, a former Burmese general.

Tharay Sithu Aung Ko Win is a Burmese business tycoon and former school teacher. He owns several businesses in Myanmar under the Kanbawza (KBZ) brand in the finance, agriculture, aviation, manufacturing and tourism sectors.

Telenor Myanmar was a telecommunications brand in Myanmar (Burma) between 2014 and 2022. It was established as a subsidiary of the Norwegian Telenor Group, and was sold off to the Lebanese M1 Group in the aftermath of the 2021 Myanmar coup d'état. After a lengthy regulatory process, Myanmar authorities approved the transaction on 18 March 2022. The company rebranded to ATOM on 8 June 2022.

Khin Thiri Thet Mon, also known as Ma Thiri, is a Burmese businesswoman and daughter of Burmese army general Min Aung Hlaing, the current prime minister and Chairman of the State Administration Council which has ruled the nation after the 2021 Myanmar coup d'état.

Nang Lang Kham is a Burmese businesswoman and philanthropist. She is a Deputy CEO of Kanbawza Bank, and the executive director of the Kanbawza Group, a major business conglomerate founded by her father, Aung Ko Win. Nang is also known for her philanthropic work as the co-founder and chair of the Brighter Future Myanmar Foundation, one of the biggest contributors to social and community development in Myanmar, which supports health, education, poverty reduction, and youth empowerment.

Aung Myo Min Din is a Burmese businessman associated with Amazing Hotels & Resorts and operates the Ananta Hotel chain. He is known for his close ties to the Myanmar's junta leader, Min Aung Hlaing. Min Din is currently the chair of the Myanmar Hoteliers' Association.

Pye Phyo Tayza is a Burmese business tycoon and the managing director of the Htoo Group of Companies, a major crony conglomerate in Myanmar. He is the current president of Yangon United F.C. and vice president of Myanmar Football Federation, the governing body of football in Myanmar. Pye Phyo Tayza is the eldest son and heir of Tay Za, Myanmar's richest man.

General Htun Aung, also spelt Tun Aung, is a Burmese military officer. He currently serves as commander-in-chief of the Myanmar Air Force.
