The UNIVAC 40 was an electronic punched card calculator which was programmed with a plugboard manufactored by Remington Rand, which targeted at small businesses. [2] Three known installations are the Groningen Low Voltage Network Construction and Operations Company on October 11, 1957, [3] Hawaiian Gas Products, Inc. (Gaspro) located in Hawaii sometime before June 14, 1958, [4] and São Paulo. [1] It was capable of 60,000 additions or 22,000 multiplications every 60 seconds [4] and had 1/3 of the memory of the UNIVAC 120. [1]

The primary difference between the UNIVAC 40, 60, and 120 were the number of digits they could operate with. The UNIVAC 40 could handle at most 40 total digits of data, while the 60 could handle 60 and the 120 could handle 120. [5]
