Uahekua Herunga is a Namibian politician. A member of SWAPO serving as a depty secretary general of the party. [1] Herunga was a regional coordinator for his party in the northwestern Kunene Region [2] prior to his appointment to the 5th National Assembly of Namibia in 2009 as a choice of president Hifikepunye Pohamba. [3] He was subsequently appointed deputy Minister of Environment and Tourism [4] and promoted to Minister in a cabinet reshuffle in December 2012,following the fifth SWAPO congress. [5]
Politics of Namibia takes place in a framework of a semi-presidential representative democratic republic,whereby the President of Namibia is both head of state and head of government,and of a pluriform multi-party system. Executive power is exercised by both the president and the government. Legislative power is vested in the two chambers of Parliament. The judiciary is independent of the executive and the legislature.
The South West Africa People's Organisation,officially known as the SWAPO Party of Namibia,is a political party and former independence movement in Namibia. Founded in 1960,it has been the governing party in Namibia since the country achieved independence in 1990. The party continues to be dominated in number and influence by the Ovambo ethnic group.
Kunene is one of the fourteen regions of Namibia. Its capital is Opuwo,its governor is Marius Sheya. The region's name comes from the Kunene River which forms the northern border with Angola. Besides the capital Opuwo,the region contains the municipality of Outjo,the town Khorixas and the self-governed village Kamanjab. Kunene is home to the Himba people,a subtribe of the Herero,as well as to Damara people and Nama people. As of 2020,Kunene had 58,548 registered voters.
Hidipo Livius Hamutenya was a Namibian politician. Veteran politician Hidipo Hamutenya died at 77 after a short illness. A long-time leading member of the South West Africa People's Organization (SWAPO),Hamutenya was a member of the Cabinet of Namibia from independence in 1990 to 2004,serving in several important ministerial portfolios. He was defeated in a bid for the party's presidential nomination in 2004 and left SWAPO to form an opposition group,the Rally for Democracy and Progress (RDP),in 2007. He was elected to the National Assembly of Namibia with RDP in the 2009 general election. He was forced to step down as RDP president on 28 February 2015 and rejoined SWAPO on 28 August 2015.
Nahas Gideon Angula is a Namibian politician who served as the third Prime Minister of Namibia from 21 March 2005 to 4 December 2012. He was succeeded by Hage Geingob in a cabinet reshuffle after the 2012 SWAPO Party congress. He subsequently served as Minister of Defence from 2012 to 2015.
Hage Gottfried Geingob was a Namibian politician who served as the third president of Namibia and Commander-in-Chief of the Namibian Defence Force (NDF) from 2015 until his death in February 2024. Geingob was the first Prime Minister of Namibia from 1990 to 2002,and served as prime minister again from 2012 to 2015. Between 2008 and 2012 Geingob served as Minister of Trade and Industry. In November 2014,Geingob was elected president of Namibia by an overwhelming margin. In November 2017,Geingob became the third president of the ruling SWAPO Party after winning by a large margin at the party's sixth Congress. He served as the party's president until his death. In August 2018,Geingob began a one-year term as chairperson of the Southern African Development Community.
Libertina Inaviposa Amathila is a Namibian physician and politician. She was the Deputy-Prime Minister of Namibia from March 2005 to March 2010.
Jerry Lukiiko Ekandjo is a Namibian politician,former anti-apartheid activist and political prisoner. He is one of the founding members of the SWAPO Youth League and has been one of the most active internal leading members of the South West Africa People's Organization (SWAPO) during the liberation struggle. He spent eight years in prison on Robben Island after being charged for inciting violence in 1973.
Ngarikutuke Ernest Tjiriange was a Namibian politician,a member of the National Assembly and former secretary-general of the ruling SWAPO Party. He also served in the Namibian cabinet from 1990 to 2010,first as Minister of Justice,then without portfolio,and then as Minister of Veteran Affairs.
Pendukeni "Penny" Iivula-Ithana is a Namibian politician who served as the secretary general of SWAPO,Namibia's ruling party,from 2007 to 2012. She was a member of the Constituent Assembly of Namibia in 1989 and has been a member of Parliament and member of cabinet since independence in 1990.

Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah is a Namibian politician who is Namibia's third and current vice president since February 2024. She previously served as the deputy prime minister of Namibia from 2015 to 2024. Currently the SWAPO vice president,and has retained her position and is set to become the party's first female presidential candidate in November 2024. She has also served as Namibia's Minister of International Relations and Cooperation since December 2012. From March 2010 to December 2012,she was Minister of Environment and Tourism. Nandi-Ndaitwah is a member of SWAPO,Namibia's ruling party,and a long-time member of the National Assembly. In 2017,Nandi-Ndaitwah was elected vice-president of the Swapo Party at the party's 6th Congress. She is the first woman to serve in that position.
The Cabinet of Namibia is an appointed body that was established by Chapter 6 of the Constitution of Namibia. It is mandated to include the following positions:the President of Namibia,the Prime Minister of Namibia and any positions that the President so appoints.
Auguste Xoagus was a Namibian politician. A member of SWAPO,Xoagus was a regional councilor for her party in Khorixas in the northwestern Kunene Region. Xoagus was on SWAPO list place 36 in the 2009 Namibian general election. SWAPO obtained 54 seats,placing her comfortably into the 5th National Assembly of Namibia. However,Xoagus died on 3 December 2009 before the 5th Assembly was sworn in. Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah,#55 on the list,took her place.
Henny Hendly Seibeb is a Namibian politician and was a Member of Parliament who serves as Deputy Leader and Chief Strategist (DLCS) of the Landless People's Movement political party which he formed alongside Bernadus Swartbooi in December 2016.
Bernadette Maria Jagger is a Namibian politician. She is a member of SWAPO and became appointed to the party's Central Committee in 2012. In 2015 she won a seat in parliament. In a cabinet reshuffle in February 2018 she was appointed Deputy Minister of Environment and Tourism,succeeding Tommy Nambahu.
