Uchechukwu Sampson Ogah // ( Loudspeaker.svg listen ) [1] (born 22 December 1969) was a former Nigerian Minister of State for Mines and Steel Development. [2] An oil magnate, entrepreneur, investor and philanthropist, Ogah is the President of Master Energy Group, [3] a conglomerate with over 15 subsidiaries and interests across a variety of industries, amongst is Masters Energy Oil and Gas Ltd. Ogah holds the Nigerian national honour, the Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) and the Commander of the Order of Niger (CON). [4] [5] He was nominated for a ministerial appointment by President Muhammadu Buhari and was later appointed as Minister of State, Mines and Steel Development [6] on Wednesday, August 21, 2019. Early life and education

Ogah was born to Chief Wilson, a sanitary inspector and retired railway staff and Ezinne Pauline Ogah [10] of Onuaku Uturu, Isuikwuato Local Government Area of Abia State. [11]

Family life and career

Ogah is married to Ngozi Sabina Ogah, a financial analyst. Ogah spent 10 years in the banking sector. He started with his National Youth Service at NAL Bank PLC. Thereafter, he took up full employment at All States Trust Bank and spent about two years in the bank before joining Zenith Bank in 1997, where he rose to the position of Assistant General Manager (AGM) before resigning in 2007. Philanthropy

He is said to have electrified villages in Uturu Community, built prototypal houses for the entire community and also constructed a 5,000 capacity auditorium in Abia state University (ABSU) Uturu. [12]

Politics

Ogah has contested for the seat of the governor of Abia state, thrice, first under the Peoples Democratic Party and the ruling All Progressives Congress.

Ogah was nominated for ministerial appointment by President Muhammadu Buhari on July 23, 2019 along with 42 other nominees. [13] During his senatorial screening on July 24, he narrated his plans on how to work on Nigerian refineries [14] as well as his plans for the Nigerian currency rate. [15] Ogah was confirmed for ministerial appointment by the Senate on July 30 [16] and on August 21, 2019 was confirmed and sworn in as the Minister of State for Mines and Steel Development. [17]

Uturu is a town located within latitudes 05.33°N and 06.03°N, in the northern part of Abia State, Nigeria. It is in the transition from rural to urban status, so it is witnessing many development activities. It is popularly known as a location for several educational institutions and the Marist Brothers community. Schools in Uturu include Abia State University, Marist Brothers' Juniorate, Uturu, Gregory University, and several post-secondary schools.

Goddy Jedy Agba OFR, born Godwin, 20 August 1958, is a Nigerian bureaucrat, politician, farmer, author and former Group general manager, Crude Oil Marketing Division, Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC). As of July 2019, he was nominated as a minister of the federal republic of Nigeria from Cross River by the government of President Muhammadu Buhari. In 1983, he had his first Degree in International Studies from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. He obtained his master's degree in International Law and Diplomacy from the University of Lagos, Akoka in 1989. Goddy joined Federal Civil Service in 1984 and retired at NNPC in 2014 to join the Nigerian politics.

The 2019 Abia State gubernatorial election occurred on March 9, 2019. Incumbent PDP Governor Okezie Ikpeazu won re-election for a second term, defeating APC's Uchechukwu Sampson Ogah, and several minor party candidates. The major contenders for the race signed a peace accord agreement in January 2019.

The 2023 Abia State gubernatorial election took place on 18 March 2023, to elect the Governor of Abia State, concurrent with elections to the Abia State House of Assembly as well as twenty-seven other gubernatorial elections and elections to all other state houses of assembly. The election—which was postponed from its original 11 March date—will be held three weeks after the presidential election and National Assembly elections. Incumbent PDP governor Okezie Ikpeazu was term-limited and could not seek a third term. Alex Otti, a banker, gained the office for the Labour Party by a margin of victory over first runner-up and PDP nominee—Okey Ahiwe, the former Chief of Staff to Ikpeazu.

Abia State elections in 2023 will be on 25 February, 11 March, and 28 April 2023. As a part of the nationwide election, the state will vote for President and Vice President on 25 February. Additionally, there will also be elections on the same day for the Senate and the House of Representatives. On 11 March, the election for Governor of Abia State will be held alongside elections to the state House of Assembly. Local government elections are scheduled for 28 April.
